I take the view in politics that there are 'no good guys'....

There are policies from virtually every party which i could agree with....e.g.

I think this is the view that many on here don't understand. Real people don't agree with all of one parties policies. It seems the ardent Tories and ardent Labour posters fail to see this.

I think everyone understands that perfectly well, but until you can apportion varying amounts of a cross in two or more boxes in the polling booth then it's a useless observation.

Then why bang on about everything Tory being great whilst denigrating the evil labour party at every turn? Perhaps if you believed that a more balanced view of politics would come from your mouth. It doesn't.

I feel the same way I like bits of all parties. Some policies are too extreme or severe There should  be a middle ground and compromise maybe I should also like MP's go with their consciense and not the part  line.Unfortunately I doubt all this will ever happen which is why I am a little apathetic about politics.

You are simply a tory caricature and your arguments are simply extremist and bateing.

Exactly. Which is why voting reform is so necessary - well, one of the reasons. Sadly given the result today (as it is conclusive in terms of one party winning) it's likely going to be FPTP for some time.

It just shows that you are a normal person Ken. Maybe politicians should understand this better too instead of fighting over everything. It would be nice to see parties work together to make life better for their population.

The conservatives will change boundaries. That should mean that they get 20 extra seats for the same voting. It's quite funny really.

Proportional representation will not work until politicians work for the betterment of society and stop voting along party lines. It would work much better if every candidate was an independant.

I wish they were Then you could read the individual's viewpoint and vote for the one you agree with knowing they'll may vote for those policies you agree upon. Also if you have your preferred MP in your area then you will not just get a bog standard party line reply when contacting them for help.

Assuming you might describe me as an ardent Tory poster, I certainly do see that.  I also see that this outcome is probably the second best we could have expected after a continuation of the coalition, and miles ahead of chaos of no clear coalition majority or a Labour SNP Pact of desperation.

Make no mistake though, a majority of 3 doesn't pass legislation, the opposition will be incredibly important in the next 5 years, and I hope we a new refreshed and strong Labour presence ASAP.

Have you ever contacted your MP for help Ken?  Mine was excellent when I had to do that.

Not personally Jon (mine is Jon Ashworth) but I have heard  of people contacting their MP re something like the BT who is a Tory and received a  reply which is off subject and talks about more in employment etc. I am sure they are bog standard replies as others have had near enough idendical letters  as replies. No doubt it would be the same for some Labour MP's if a Tory supporter wrote about something like fox hunting. With Independants you may get a honest and personal reply. Would  be nice to have more than one so as to choose. :) As it is, if for eg you have a dispute with a neighbour your MP may take his side because of their party ties.

There is a difference between writing a whinging letter to your MP because you don't like policy - in which case expect a fairly generic party political reply, and contacting them for help, when I think you would find the vast majority both considerate and helpful.

I believe I said that too. Well that a tory majority is better than a labour minority or coalition.

We need the Tories to move a little to the right, Labour to the left and Lib Dem to find a clear space in the middle or better still do away with all parties and go with local independants representing their local needs.

Proportional representation is a must now, and the only fair way to govern this country.

Nah, we have it in Lesotho.

It resulted in a 3 party coalition then a coup and now a 7 party coalition. Nothing gets done other than politicians talking sh!te.

hope it works a hell of a lot better than the form of PR (DR) for the european parliament then.

So many problems with PR which the west doesn't seem able to solve.

seems to be a new bandwagon call for the sheep who don't like what they have and don't understand any of the forms.

The problem is, last time Lib Dems never voted Tory but still got them and whoever gets in  only has about a third of the people's  support.

It works though, and it has done for hundreds of years.  See UK as fifth largest economy in the world.

TBH I'm outraged that the SNP and Labour haven't been given first right of refusal.  It's clearly an abuse of power to allow the Tories to form a Government without offering this first.
