MPH Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 Islam V Islam sounds like the perfect war for the west...Nuke em all I'll try and reply to this respectfully. I know so many kind caring wonderful muslims in Leicester..... It would be impossible for me to comprehend Leicester is the only place in the world for there to be good honest hardworking muslims. I hope that never again Will a nuclear weapon be used , with my name attached to it, to target innocent people.
Ollie93 Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 Exactly this. As a species we've lived on this planet for the tiniest sliver of recordable life history, let alone geological history, let alone universal history. Earth was fine without us, and it will certainly be fine without us if we don't survive the next mass extinction event. Correct but there hasn't been another species before humans that have un-earthed all these "fossil fuels" we use today, pumped billions of tonnes of pollution into the air nor pumped hundreds of gallons of oil into the sea. That's without the vast refuse tips of waste or plastic that will probably never bio-degrade floating in our oceans. So we haven't exactly helped ourselves.
Ollie93 Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 While countless others are thriving and the planet itself is perfectly fine and perfectly stable. We're a risk to ourselves and we're a risk to some of our favourite apex predators and primates but our "threat" to the planet as an entity is practically non existent. The vast majority of species that have ever lived on this planet are extinct and countless species go extinct daily, with or without our input. I see what you're saying. But humans have been responsible for so many extinctions. Through de-forestation, hunting/trophy killing, even "medicinal" purposes. We have affected the natural cycle of things, that will never return to what it once was.

The Big 5 mass extinctions have killed off far more of the Earths species and biodiversity than we ever could. Though we do bear a pretty heavy burden of responsibility for the damage occurring now, it is in no way unprecedented in Earths history. Life took over 30 MILLION years after the Permian mass extinction to really get going again. If life can survive that, it can certainly survive us over a long enough timescale for recovery. I think people sometimes underestimate the scale of time it has taken life to flourish and develop on this planet, because we always seem to compare it to human lifetimes or history, which is just a blink of an eye in geological terms.
Mark_w Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 I've got a nuclear weapon. My cock. Don't let it fall into the hands of ISIS.
Stadt Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 I think it's quite safe to assume ISIS won't be touching any penises anytime soon

Finnegan Posted 29 June 2015 Posted 29 June 2015 I see what you're saying. But humans have been responsible for so many extinctions. Through de-forestation, hunting/trophy killing, even "medicinal" purposes. We have affected the natural cycle of things, that will never return to what it once was. Sure we've played a part in a fair few extinctions. We've also created other species ourselves or created environments for them to thrive. Look at rats, for example, flies and roaches. Of course, they aren't as impressive as whales and gorillas to look at but they've adapted much better to earth with us on it. As much as some people like to pretend we're not, we really are just part of nature. As for the planet itself? Like I said, it's been here doing fine a long ****ing time and will continue to be here long after we're gone.
