Has anyone got one, is it worth the money, are they a magnet for thieves? Ideally I'd like a discreet one which I don't have to take in and out every time I drive. PS It's my first ever diesel - haven't managed to fill it with unleaded yet but I'm sure I'll fook up at some point.

A poor Polish girl pulled out of Slater Street on me when I was going up Frog Island. I had about 4 seconds to stop and piled into the side of her. I feel was lucky that she admitted fault. I don't think I'll be so lucky next time, hence me buying a dash cam last week. I read and read and read some more about them until I was sick of reading. I had the following criteria which had to have a fair balance: 1) picture quality 2) discreet size 3) price (not so important) Things I couldn't give a flying fcuk about: 1) rear screen (I don't need to watch on a 1" screen. I'll stick the SD card in my Mac thanks 2) Mic. When I have a crash, I don't want the insurance to sit there laughing at me trying to sing to Rage Against the Machine! In the end, we bought 2 of the "0805" cameras. If you want discreet, check them out. For me, it was balancing price, quality and size. I'd have no qualms about spunking £300 on a camera...however, they're all fooking massive. Also check out the Mobius cameras, look even more discreet (box of TicTacs) and you can do some good shit with them like buy an extension cable so you're able to move the lens away from the body. They tick every box for me, I just find the picture quality just not up to scratch. Oh, I also wanted to avoid having a sucker mount as they're all fooking massive as well. If ours come today, I'll let you know!!

I opted direct from HK. ordered 5 days ago, cleared customs last night and hopefully out for delivery today. My wife is 100% convinced her Golf was taken as a shopping cart when we left it at Heathrow once. It certainly wasn't taken for a joy ride as it's not exactly an R32

In the end I just pulled the trigger. I won't exactly be heartbroken over £47 if it dies or gets stolen although I'll be pi55ed at a broken window. I'll reevaluate the camera market in 12-18 months and see if the sizes have got smaller and the quality even better.

Halfords will fit them so they are hardwired into the electrics and the wires are all hidden for £30.

I watched a Halfords 'fitter' try to install a DAB radio in my car a few years ago, had to stop him because he was making a total mess of the job and broke some of the trim, stripping a car interior is easy if you know what you are doing but I'd never trust a Halfords employee to do it.

They're a joke. I bought a stereo from them ages ago, and they wanted to charge £80 to fit it! I thought I'd at least have a go by myself first. Took me about half an hour. Couldn't believe how easy it was.

The problem is they train a few guys at each store how to fit stuff but they can't cover the whole car market or really do anything in depth, also they aren't paid much to do the work and generally aren't all that motivated, you may get lucky and find they do an ok job but it's not worth the risk, I'd pay a bit more and get a professional fitter if I couldn't do it myself.

I'm going to temporarily set it up tomorrow and record some footage on the way to work. If you can wait until tomorrow evening, I'll upload it then just so you can see the quality. It'll be in a crap and wrong position on my dashboard as I'm going to hardwire it in. It'll be on the lower dash as a temporary measure. I took the camera out and tried it behind my rearview mirror. It's invisible from inside the car (which is what I want).
