Vardy is fastest player in Premier League

Don't be... because it's horseshit isn't it.

Just like Was being on the list last year. We'd seen with our own eyes Agbonlahor gallop past Was at Villa whilst also controlling a ball. Yet we'll just forget what we've seen because some stat measured over half a metre or half a second says he's the quickest. He could just have an explosive burst due to his size, but over 15/20/30 metres he's got no chance.

Schlupp, Vardy, Dyer, Kante, De Laet it's fairly obvious they are quick. We see them beat their man regularly. Albrighton... When do we see him beat someone with pace? Not often. If someone asked you to describe him you wouldn't say quick at all. Wes isn't as slow as people make out, but you'd never have him down as quick, ditto Was.

This stuff needs to be taken with a pinch of salt because the sample is so small.

Agree with this ....

And until sunday would have said the same about Albrighton ..... But I mistook him for Vardy when he sprinted more than once on sunday - he surprised me how quick he is.

OK, that's all great. These stats are just showing the top speed these players have reached, not the amount of steps taken to reach that point or the distance covered at that speed. The stats show that all of those players are clearly capable of running very fast; they don't indicate anything else.

I'd be interested to know how these figures are arrived at. To give some context: if an athlete ran 100m in 10 secs he would be running at average 36km/hr.

Yes, but he starts at 0km/hr and reaches a top speed of higher than that. This is a stat for top speed.

TRACAB, a supplier to the Premier League, uses advanced image-processing technology to determine the position of all moving objects in the field of play at a rapid 25 times per second.

This technology makes it possible to establish accurate data showing the top speeds that a player reaches during a Premier League game.

A Leicester fan group done the math and it worked out to Vardy doing 100meters in 10.16

Literally no chance Vardy could run 100m in 10.16. Especially on grass in football boots. I don't think a single premier league player could drop under 10.5 seconds on grass in football boots. I'd be surprised if more than a handful could go under 11.

Hence why it's all plop as it's measured over a tiny distance. Because they are built like brick shit houses, with legs like tree trunks Wes and Was could have a quick initial burst... then nothing! Someone like Walcott would still have their pants down in a foot race.

Maybe Wes and Was were recorded at that speed flying into a tackle?

Either way the fact that so many are at the same 2 grounds suggests there may be something wrong with the set-up at those grounds, or those grounds are naturally quicker, but you would think if we had 5 of the quickest players in the league one of them would have recorded a fast time at the KP in three games there.

Not really though is it. I believe a lot of players can hit under 11 not exactly hard with today's sport science etc.

Just watch Ronaldo tested to the limit, he has a sprint race with a Spanish athlete and finishes just behind him. They then do a zig zag obstacle course, Ronaldo smashes it.

Bare in mind they only so this over 25 meters, but it still puts things into perspective. Ronaldo finishes 0.3 seconds behind him because he loses power and momentum with the way he runs with his hands at his side.

Football players are quick, Vardy is fast and **** as the majority of our players, Walcott is quick, Bellerin too. Would like to see them in something similar.

I've already seen it and you answer your own question. It's over 25 metres, and if memory serves me correct they state over 100 metres the sprinter would win hands down and comfortably.  Which goes back to the original point, Vardy is unlikely to be around 10 seconds when running the 100metres.

I didn't say Vardy could do it in 10 seconds, a Facebook fan site said he could based on speeds and clocked distance that it was measured on.

Vardy or any of the fastest Prem players could hit in the 10s easily if they had the correct training.

But the original post did that I replied to.

I'm sure they might, but they aren't trained like that. Hence why taking a speed someone did over half a metre, or half a second or whatever tiny amount it was... doesn't mean it works out that he'd do the 100 in around 10 seconds. Not only are they not built / trained for that. You're taking their top speed and not factoring in speed deviation. Sprinters don't run at the same speed all the way through.

Depends what you mean by "10s" though.

There are probably thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of people worldwide capable of running a 10 point something 100 metres but there are probably only 25 capable of running under 10.

No amount of training is getting Vardy, Walcott, Ronaldo etc under (or even particularly close to) 10 seconds even in track gear on a fast sprinting track (as opposed to relatively baggy football kit and boots on grass).

'Everybody in Denmark wants to talk about Jamie Vardy,' says Leicester City keeper Kasper Schmeichel

Jamie Vardy and Kasper Schmeichel share a joke with Nathan Dyer

Jamie Vardy has received a lot of accolades for his emergence at Leicester City – and that praise is fully deserved, believes keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

City's Danish goalkeeper said Vardy's rise from non-league football to becoming an England international in just three years is down to the Sheffield-born striker's attitude and commitment – on and off the pitch.

Vardy has started the season in excellent form and Schmeichel said he is continually asked about his team-mate's story when he returns to Denmark.

"The thing about Vards is he came here from Fleetwood and had a difficult first season," said Schmeichel.

"From there it could have gone one of two ways. He could have dropped off and not made the step up, but the way he is the way he trains, his mentality and the way he plays epitomises everything about him.

"He is an amazing striker and an amazing guy.

"When I go home to Denmark the person that everyone talks about is Jamie Vardy because they love his attitude.

P

"As a team-mate, it is a pleasure to play with someone like that. He is a Premier League striker now and an England international, and that is purely down to his mentality, how much he wanted it, how hard he was willing to work and how much he was prepared to sacrifice.

"He has taken the step up and he deserves it."

City remain the only side in the Premier League yet to taste defeat, despite failing to keep a clean sheet.

While Schmeichel said he would love a shut-out, he said the trade-off was City's potent attacking play.

"The way we play sometimes we are very open and expansive," he said.

"We leave gaps and when you make mistakes like we did at Stoke you are going to concede goals in this league.

"You go out hoping to keep a clean sheet but we are up against quality players."
