Vicki Vixen Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I was looking through some old programmes the other day and found a few copies of The Fox fanzine from around 15 yrs ago.So I thought I'd buy a copy at a recent game, surprised that printed fanzines still exist when info about football is so easily and instantly accessible online. This failed when the guy selling The Fox outside the Premier Inn told me he had no change, and that no, he would not be there after the game had finished. So I wondered if anyone on here still buys The Fox or any other LCFC fanzines, and if so, is this just for something to do when your phone battery has died? Or is there really still a market in 2015 for the printed fanzine magazine?
Footballwipe Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I got really into it when my dad bought a copy years ago. I bought all the back issues they had and subscribed, but I must've stopped buying them a good 3-4 years now. I think in this day and age they're doing incredibly well to be publishing. I'm too young to remember the 1990s clearly so if you treat them as a historical document they are fantastic in terms of seeing what the club was going through back then when there were no forums, no social media, no mainstream internet basically. Our history is contained and debated online now, though, and I'm not sure long term they'd be as good. I'd reccomend anyone who wanted to get a fans eye view of the 1990s to get your hands on them though, they are fantastic.
tokyo_fox Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I've been buying it since about issue 7 and still subscribe to this very day and enjoy reading every issue. Of course certain info is available on the net but magazines and publications can work around that by getting exclusive articles and opinion etc on their pages. Call me old fashioned but I still like to read some stuff in printed format. Not sure if any of the other fanzines are still going. I very much doubt it though! 'Where's The Money Gone?' was a popular and funny alternative to The Fox in the mid 90s. The Fox has been close to finishing a couple of times now but they've always been persuaded to keep on going
Bayfox Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I'm lead to believe that the Fox is struggling and fair play to them for carrying on, however I think you can now buy and online subscription to a emailed version as well, so maybe that has helped with costs, you can find it here. https://thefoxfanzine.wordpress.com/ with a lot of archives.
Leicesterpool Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I like the fanzine, it's a good read and laugh. I know for a while they stopped doing the fanzine due to lack of interest and it was during that bad spell last season, they only brought it back in April due to request. I remember speaking to a seller once, he told me they only print around 200 copies.
LCCFox96 Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 Occasionally I buy The Fox outside the Premier Inn but usually just get the official programmes. The Fox has proved a decent read in the past though.
bovril Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I used to get every issue from around 99-2006 and occasionally posted on the message board. It's a great read, long may it continue.
Spudulike Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I'd rather buy the Fox than the official programme. Some great interviews and love '50 Something' I'd miss it if it stopped.
Jordan Posted 14 September 2015 Posted 14 September 2015 I had a subscription mailed to me in the U.S. a few years ago, and got the "Thirtysomething" book along with it (which was a great laugh). I check their WordPress site every now and again, and I like their content. It's a good alternative viewpoint, and they have good interviews with past players. Fanzines must be more "labor of love" than ways to make money, especially in times like these where they (and printed media in general) don't seem to be in fashion. But I wish The Fox well and hope it carries on for many years.

It's still a great read and it would be a loss if it was to stop. It doesn't cost a lot to buy, I urge you all to sign up for it.
Babylon Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 Where's where's the money gone gone? I was trying to think of the one I bought as a kid. Sure it was called something like that.
foxoffderby Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 I'm trying to find a particular copy of the Fox. I cant remember which edition it is but I remember it has a picture of Tony James scoring the goal against Oxford season 1990/1991 at the kop end Filbert St. Well I'm in the picture in the crowed as a 15 year old kid jumping up and down. When we moved house the wife chucked all my old fanzines away! Trying to get another copy. Can anybody help ? Which edition was it? I will then try to get another copy from Gary Silke the chap who writes in the Mercury but he can't remember either.
Guest Posted 15 September 2015 Posted 15 September 2015 They were struggling badly from a financial pont of view and decided to keep going this season. I subscribed for this season - the Summer special was very very good. Cracking interviews. Details of how to subscribe on here https://thefoxfanzine.wordpress.com/
