Mike Oxlong Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 So Wayne Rooney is getting a testimonial after 12 years at Man U. Fine if he gives the proceeds to charity but an absolute disgrace if he trousers the cash. He must have earned plenty from salary and endorsements over that period and possibly a few extra pence from image rights. No problem with these matches back in the 70's and 80's or for a lower league player who has shown great loyalty to a club but will not be financially secure as a result of their income from football but testimonials for Premiership players is surely taking the piss. By all means at that level, recognise a player's service but call it a Celebration Match or something else and make sure any proceeds are used in a better way than sticking another Lamborghini on the drive.
Guest Kopfkino Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Well of course it's going to charity, they said that straight away
Izzy Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Well of course it's going to charity, they said that straight away I think we've got Nial Quinn to thank for the fact top players now donate testimonial money to charity. I think he was the first (or one of the first) to do this and since then I don't think Prem players would dare trouser the cash. Lower league players though is a different matter, I think they probably deserve to pocket the money if they're only earning an 'average' wage.
Mike Oxlong Posted 27 October 2015 Author Posted 27 October 2015 Well of course it's going to charity, they said that straight away Hadn't seen that. Rant over. What's the charity, Help the Aged?
purpleronnie Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 It's pretty standard for the rich players to donate it to charity. Much respect goes to the lower league players who do the same.
Fox92 Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Testimonials are standard, Rooney has served Manchester United well so why not? Proceeds will go to charity as stated but so what if they didn't? Rooney is on £300,000 a week (reported) but someone put's that contract in front of you, you're not going to reject it. Dunno why people get worked up about stuff like this all time.
Fox92 Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Did Conrad Logan have one in the end? Don't think so Wymeswold.
Facecloth Posted 27 October 2015 Posted 27 October 2015 Did Conrad Logan have one in the end? He should have had one, but should have been left in the bench for the entirety of it.
