Valdes?

We are desperate for a good second choice keeper!

He is desperate to leave Man Utd and has been said to want to play in the Premier still.

Massive amount of experience at the highest standard too so can imagine him being good for the club all round, Kasper would probably learn a lot more of him than what Schwarzer can pass on to him.

We need a second choice keeper who will be pushing for a regular spot who will bring the best out of KS too as I feel he knows he can be a little complacent as his position is not in threat

Would be an outstanding option, but I guess he want's to move to play, so unless he is confident he would be no.1 then i guess that along with wages maybe an issue.

Also then what becomes of Kasper, I know he has his faults, and in many ways, Valdes has one very similar flaw, commanding the area, but then Kasper now see's himself as very much a no.1 would he then be looking to leave.

2nd choice keepers is a real fine line in the modern game.

I know what you mean, we need a good enough keeper who knows they are going to spend time on the bench but also good enough to compete for a first team spot.

Valdes is down to about 3/4th choice now and maybe a loan spell could help him rotting away in the under 21's?

Can imagine he is on a large wage but could try and work something out with Utd

Hamer played very well when called upon last season. Can only remember one mistake. He is ok for a number two.

Schwarzer didn't give us anything better than Hamer last season. A couple of goals came from him basically palming the ball right back to the opposition.

We need a 1st choice keeper, not a 2nd choice keeper.

So, leave one team as second choice to become another team's second choice, probably for less wages? Decent logic.

How old is Valdes now? If he's under 34 he would be our number one if we were to sign someone of his calibre.

It's not as ridiculous as it sounds. He doesn't want to leave England and there was talk of him going to Newcastle as he just wants to play. If a top 6 side like us ;)  came in for him; why wouldn't he?

I don't think us signing him as number one would be ridiculous at all, to suggest that he'd come here to sit on the bench and challenge Kasper for the number 1 shirt, from the bench, is crazy talk though.

He is 33, 34 in Jan.

What makes you think he would come in as a number 2? Apart from KS failing to come off his line I don't think he has done too bad this season but the point I'm trying to make is if we have stronger competition for that position then either he will have to fight for his position back or we will see the best out of him.

Everyone always says what Schwarzer will bring off the field which I'm sure Valdes will probably being just as much if not more.

He is unhappy at Utd, he is not even their 2nd choice keeper due to falling out with LVG.

He has came out and said he wants stay in the premier and apart from Newcastle who have Krul out I can't really think of another team, I don't think he would want to join a team who is fighting for survival either.

If we are still in the position we are in come Jan I can't see why he wouldn't want to join us.

I liked Hamer too and thought he deserved better treatment to what he received last season but think with him going out on loan and not playing now has probably not have him a good chance as being considered a strong contender for no.2.

A goalkeeper shouldn't be a priority in January we have other positions that require attention. I'd look to bring a new number 1 in next summer if Schmeichel doesn't improve. I'd like to see us target someone like Szczesny.

Think Marshall from Cardiff would be a good option

He signed a four-year contract in August 2014, and has been their first-choice keeper since he joined them, so is unlikely to want to be a bench-warmer.

not old enough to be a backup keeper, let's wait 10 years

Haha you do make a good point lol in that case we probably have one of the best in the business currently then lol

Does anyone know if Kevin Poole has finally hung his gloves up yet? lol

If Valdes is coming out publicly stating he is leaving in Jan then why wouldn't he consider us if we approached him? If he hadn't of said he wants to stay in the premier I would of thought he would probably end up at Monaco/Milan etc but looking at it there isn't too many clubs he can actually end up if he wants premier league football?

Chelsea, Arsenal, Man City, Southampton, Stoke all sorted.

Liverpool maybe but can't see Utd selling to them.

Spurs? But would definitely be back up to Lloris when fully fit.

West Ham but likely to stick with Adrian.

Everton? They've had few moans about Howard lately and seem to have good relationship with Utd?

Only other teams outside of these that would probably appeal in terms of either wages or current position etc would be us, Newcastle And Palace?

Not sure how appealing Palace could seem but is London based to go in their favour?

Newcastle need new GK now Krul out but are struggling with form and don't like to spend.

If we've signed Cambiasso on our first season back in the premier league I can see why we could sign an unhappy Valdes.

Schwarzer has literally offered us nothing since his arrival, Kasper needs stronger competition for his place

Why all the Kasper hate? Hasn't done a lot wrong so far this season and personally feel like his attitude and passion helps the team massively. What happened to him being the messiah last season after coming back from injury?

Schwartzer's so shit he's spreading his shitness to our other keepers

lol is it just me or is everyone missing the point that if we got Victor Valdes in then our second-choice 'keeper would very likely be Schmeichel. 34 and back from a serious injury or not Valdes would only need to be of average quality at PL level to give Schmeichel serious competition, because let's face it, at PL level Schmeichel is average at best.

I think an average PL player should be fine, shouldn't it? For now at least. How high do we expect to finish?! Surely we have a few players out there who don't look anywhere near PL standard to worry about.

Well I was playing it safe with my first post but personally I think Valdes would be miles better than Schmeichel.
