Valdes?

A goalkeeper shouldn't be a priority in January we have other positions that require attention. I'd look to bring a new number 1 in next summer if Schmeichel doesn't improve. I'd like to see us target someone like Szczesny.

And you can bet your bottom dollar we are looking into that.

Yet at the same time if we are approached by Valdes's agent about the possibility of him signing for us   " i'm sorry, we haven't signed a right back yet so we cant possibly look at any other positions" would be a bit of a silly response, don't you think?

Why all the Kasper hate? Hasn't done a lot wrong so far this season and personally feel like his attitude and passion helps the team massively. What happened to him being the messiah last season after coming back from injury?

There isn't any Kasper hate going on. As I have put earlier I don't think he has done too much wrong this season so far although his movement of his line for crosses is questionable.

Like any position there needs to be strong competition to keep players on their toes and to stop complacency. Last season proved it just as much as we all know, KS has no competition here and is guaranteed first team football, he knows that too.

I can't see a scenario happening in which the second-choice goalkeeper earns more than the first-choice goalkeeper.

So, that's a no to Valdes.

Valdes is a good shout. Schmeichel was great after injury last season, when he felt he had to prove his worth, this season so far he ha been lacking. we need a first choice keeper, kasper should be number 2

Brainless, some fans just Brainless or braindead..!!

Not for me,I dont see why we should , but lets say we replace Kasper, we still would need a second goalkeeper.

The priority for me is a 1st team 2nd goalkeeper. Not replace one for the other.

I would look for a young lad with some experience, from the lower leagues. Not from a foreign team.

Schwarzer was Ok last night, unlike some posters would have us believe, but this is a club with traditional goalkeeping

history and respect.Schwarzer is now simply too old for a fill in at PL top 10 level, he covered an Emergency, we simply shouldnt carry on believing we have an emergency.

If this Japanese is the new addition, get him on the bench ASAP, if not kill the rumours.

So just because it's something you don't believe with it means that everyone is either brain dead or brain less?

Yes we should try a young lad with some experience from the lower leagues. Think there's a keeper sitting on the bench at Bristol City actually, played prem last season and has played couple of seasons in the premier league if that sounds good enough for you?

Will have to see how good this Japanese keeper is as I know very little about his abilities but maybe with him, Schwarzer and Hamer they don't offer enough competition to make KS work for his place.

That top part was me just having a frustrated rant.Frustrated because again Another position is being attacked.

Another Rant...so you think KS a proffesional Goalkeeper doesnt work for his place.A guy, like Shilton and his dad,

takes extra hours to practice.

These sleepyide comments that player or this player are not competitive enough, or dont try hard enough.

Maybe certain players might not be good enough, but to question their game commitment, is like sloppy journalism,

which you yourself has questioned, is sloppy and lazy forum posting.

Kasper is guaranteed first team football. He knows that, every fan knows that and even Mark Schwarzer knows it. Kasper could have a howler of a game and will still be in between the sticks the following game cause he has no real competition. Look at what Schwarzer has done since he has been here, it's poor keeping unfortunately.

I have never questioned Kaspers professionalism and not even slated his performances bar failure to come off his line at times. I think you have taken it a little out of context.

Every position has pretty strong competition but GK position. I don't know what this Japanese keeper is like but knowing what Valdes offers and him publicly stated he wants to leave and stay in the premier league I wondered what everyone thought as I thought he would be a good addition.

Played at Barcelona for about 20 years and now at Man United. How much money do you think he is on? 75k a week at least?

Ridiclous.

Kasper has been and still is a great keeper for us he just needs strong competition for his place and the old man isn't doing that

I've never really bought into this "needs competition' for goalkeepers. There aren't many clubs that have two 'happy' quality keepers as invariably the one currently not playing will soon want to move elsewhere for first team football. Valdes is a perfect example.

Most clubs have a history of having a veteran or an up-and-coming prospect as their number two. We should only pay substantial wages to another keeper if he's replacing Kasper.

Perhaps we need a different 'old man', a slightly younger one!

But we're not desperate for a 2nd-choice keeper.

Maybe not but we can't afford to wait until we are before getting a replacement. If Kasper gets injured we have an old man, a young boy or a beard that is currently out on loan.

Last heard beard wasn't really doing the business in a lower league.

A club our size cannot keep two goalkeepers of a standard happy, it's just impossible.

We tried last summer by buying a Championship number 1 to compete with Kasper. What happened? He decided he wanted to play more so asked to leave on loan.

If we buy a keeper better than Kasper and he loses his places, then Kasper will ask to leave as he will want to play.

We are not a Chelsea or Man United.

Our sub goalkeeper will either be an old veteran (Schwarzer) or a young goalkeeper.

True, but there are better old man keepers out there than Schwarzer, he isn't fit for purpose any more, fair play to him for trying to continue his career, but we need an adequate back-up, Shay given would have been a decent pick up in the summer, I'm sure there are others out there. Or we put some faith in youth while Hamer is on loan, we have a recall option so it would only be a temporary option, we could have another Hot Dog kid situation.

If we could have scored once in 90 minutes or twice in 120 minutes vs. Hull, this thread wouldn't exist. I'm not worried about who's between the sticks.

I am, Schwarzer wasn't good enough last season to be number 2, he cost us a number of goals when we badly the points, he has done nothing to suggest he has improved this season.

Unfortunately due to the nature of the transfer windows and 25 man squads, we need a squad flexible enough to be capable of adjusting to changes in circumstances, if Kasper got badly injured we would be screwed, Hamer  isn't playing at Bristol and Schwarzer isn't good enough any more.

I don't think Valdes is a  credible option for a number 2, but he could come in as number 1 possibly on a loan deal where United stump up some of the wages. That really depends on Kasper, if he can just step it up a bit we will be fine, but some worrying decision making is creeping into his game.

If we stick with Kasper then we need a number 2 that will give him competition, but also provide sufficient back up  in case of emergencies.
