AKCJ Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 I'm firmly in the Col camp as far as Cambiasso is concerned. I never rated him that highly first time around as his legs had gone. He was a lovely player on the ball and read the game superbly but was poor athletically. Why anyone would want him here two seasons later is mind boggling. If we're going to sign highly talented players who haven't got the legs anymore why don't we go the whole hog and have a central midfield of Zidane and Bobby Charlton? I have absolutely no idea why you wouldn't rate Cambiasso. He was utterly superb for us, fair enough we have moved on but he, for me, is the main reason we are still in the Premier League.
ST20 Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 People have short term memories regarding Cambiasso it seems.
Babylon Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 People have short term memories regarding Cambiasso it seems. It's Col trying to rewrite history again. Just ignore him, he got voted player of the season by the fans, that's all we need to know.

He got voted player of the season, Col reluctantly accepted that he was excellent for us in the run in and a good signing overall and now we're back to "I was right all along" even though his opinion now doesn't chime with what he was saying in May last year.
Dan Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 I do think Col's insistence on taking a snipe at Cambiasso at every possible opportunity is a bit weird but it's hard to really argue with the gist of what he's saying. Cambiasso wouldn't start for us now.

Guest ttfn Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 That said I wouldn't have him back now. We've moved on, but it won't change the fact that he was an inspiration and became a cult hero in just one season. Even now, top of the league in March, nobody has had a round of applause or standing ovation quite like what Cambiasso got when he took a corner in the second half of the last game of last season and when he got subbed.
Dan Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 becasue of our sudden meteoric rise it's hard to place us in the transfer market imo. Can we attract players from clubs like Everton, Southampton etc? Yes we can offer Champions league football but there's no telling how long that will last. Worth putting feelers out there though Youri Tielemans would be an immense signing imo I think the same. It's quite a rare case. I couldn't call if we could attract players from clubs like Valencia or Roma. The key for us is to keep signing the next gems rather than the 'proven' ones who will inevitably cost a ridiculous amount of money. I'd say Tielemans is realistic though. A dreadful Newcastle signed Mitrovic and Mbemba from them. Suppose it's largely down to competition for him. He's the type we should go for though if he's as good as they say he is.
Nick Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Ah..the usual Babylon put down. End of conversation, end of chat... Let's hope so... This afterall is the ongoing transfer talk thread!

That's because Schlupp doesn't take corners.

We could definitely attract players from Valencia and Roma. We'll be offering champions league football for starters, not to mention that we could pay more than probably all bar maybe 10 teams on the continent. Plus if we win the league there's some added kudos from being league champions.
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Let's hope so... This afterall is the ongoing transfer talk thread! My point is and always has been referring to the 'type' of player we need to sign Nick. I said the same thing when we were linked with DeJong. Who has now gone to the MLS I believe! Yet you amongst others were suggesting he'd do ok for us if my memory is right? We want no more players well past their prime. No last pay packets, no daft wages that no longer correspond to what you're getting on the pitch. The main thing I've loved about how we've ran this season is the giving the opportunities to 'rising stars'. And look how they've taken them! More of the same. IMO.

You could have argued that Huth fell into the category of "last pay day" and he's been great. All depends on the individual. Huth, Wasilewski, Cambiasso and Phillips have all been brought in in their 30s in the last 2 years and been very positive influences on the squad.
foxfanazer Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 If we sign a striker it needs to be someone like Lukaku. A proper beast like Didier Drogba. Now I'm not saying we could get Lukaku, as my post earlier says, i have no idea where we stand in the transfer market. Aboubakar from Porto or Musa seem to fit this mould. I like Shinji but imagine Vardy playing alongside someone like Lukaku! Scary!
Gerard Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 I have absolutely no idea why you wouldn't rate Cambiasso. He was utterly superb for us, fair enough we have moved on but he, for me, is the main reason we are still in the Premier League. "Utterly superb" is stretching it a bit. He was a good signing for us as he became our talisman but we suffered with him in a two man midfield. I wanted him to re sign in the summer especially when our central midfield options were King, Hammond and an unproven Drinkwater, also Aranguiz had rejected us and Kante looked like he didn't want to come. At that point it looked like we'd have the weakest central midfield pairing in the league so it's funny how it's worked out as we ended up having arguably the best. I like my central midfielders to at least have a big engine and ball winning attributes about them so I always felt Cambiasso was a luxury player for us in a two man midfield.
foxfanazer Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Absurd to say he wasn't athletic enough. I remember seeing that he covered the most distance in loads of our games last season.
Guest Col city fan Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 You could have argued that Huth fell into the category of "last pay day" and he's been great. All depends on the individual. Huth, Wasilewski, Cambiasso and Phillips have all been brought in in their 30s in the last 2 years and been very positive influences on the squad. How old was Huth when he signed for us? Genuine question as I don't know? He had also played for years in the Prem AND is a centre back. Not a central midfielder expected to get up and down the pitch especially in a 442. Wasa has been a bit part player, same with Phillips and of course both were signed when we in the Championship and not signed to be first team regulars in a Premiership side. So whilst I get you, sort of, I'm not sure the point you're making.

Everton are bang average. We'll be playing in the Champs League.

I find it funny how people have the audacity to say that the stats back up the idea that Cambiasso wasn't good when actually, they don't.
Gerard Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Absurd to say he wasn't athletic enough. I remember seeing that he covered the most distance in loads of our games last season. Covering the ground isn't enough, you have to be able to do it quickly and he couldn't.
foxfanazer Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 Covering the ground isn't enough, you have to be able to do it quickly and he couldn't.I honestly have no idea what that means
Gerard Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 You could have argued that Huth fell into the category of "last pay day" and he's been great. All depends on the individual. Huth, Wasilewski, Cambiasso and Phillips have all been brought in in their 30s in the last 2 years and been very positive influences on the squad. We seen Huth first hand and I don't think you could find an example of a Leicester fan who didn't want Huth here permanently. Centre halves and goalkeepers last a lot longer as pace and athleticism isn't as vital in other areas of the pitch. I want Leicester to sign players who are hungry for success, not players who are getting on in age and are taking what they would think is a step down to join us, these are the players I'm wary of but you can't tar them all with the same brush.

We'll be playing in the Champs League.I'd like to think so but don't you agree that it's hard to know exactly where we are in the transfer market. Does one season's amazing achievement suddenly put us ahead of the likes of Everton or even United? I'm not saying we're not but its so difficult to predictAlso I don't think we'd be the only ones interested if he wanted a move away. Would be sensational at Arsenal imo

We'll be playing in the Champs League. No way could we get him, he'll go for about £60m to somewhere like Arsenal. Lukaku isn't going to make a sideward step to Leicester if and when he leaves Everton.
AKCJ Posted 21 March 2016 Posted 21 March 2016 There is no way Arsenal are going to fork out the money to buy Lukaku.
