'We're by far the greatest team the world has ever seen'

I was thinking as I slowly awoke this morning about this song. it always sounds ridiculous when we sing it because quite plainly it isn't true. Never has been. Never will be. But then it occurred to me that if we win the PL , surely this will be the greatest 'team' the world has ever seen. Not for all the things that are obvious like the Brazil of 1970 or barca of the past decade, but for team ethic and workrate (and a few others like Xmas parties). I seriously think we can sing this song with some sincerity at the moment.

How many other examples are there of teams that can claim to have achieved what these guys have this season if they go on to lift the trophy?

Have there been ironic E-I-E-I-O chants yet?

Suppose we could just change the lyrics from Football League to Champions League.

There's loads of examples of great teams...

Blackburn won three consecutive FA Cup's, Huddersfield won the league for three consecutive years, Real Madrid won five consecutive Champions League's and Liverpool won it three times in the space of five years too (as well as dominating English football). Netherlands played in the '74 and '78 World Cup final despite not winning it, at a time when Ajax won three consecutive Champions League's.

The history of football is very amazing and intriguing. If we won the league this season it would be an unbelievable and superb achievement but don't ever forget what other teams have achieved throughout history. Football is amazing and I love it - always have done and always will.

not sure if you're missing my point as I don't have the details of Huddersfield's team. most of those you have listed above had the best players - hence they became the best team. We are the best team in spite of not having the best players. Hence we are a TEAM, not a collection of individuals. In team sports, how often has something like this occurred over a season rather than a tournement where, for example, an easy draw can play its part.

Bring on the Sunderland and arsenil bring.

Can these pathetic nicknames please stop? They're utterly embarrassing.

Nonsense.

We have the best three players in the league this season.

the three best performing players this season - precisely. But they aren't the three best players in the league. Eg - Would anyone in here claim that vardy is a better player than Aguerro?

Ah right, apologies, I think I did misunderstand you there. (Although my post still stands in terms of a more general football thread). I agree we're a team, yeah. I've said before we haven't necessarily got a team of superstars but we've got a tight knit team and that is far more important in any sport.

Over the course of a season the best team wins the league. Always. Any country, any league. I once saw an interview by Brian Clough and he said winning the league is the most important thing because it takes every aspect to win it. That is so true. After 30-odd games we're top of the league and it's truly wonderful, because we have been the best team and the most consistent.

Errrrmmm NO

After the shite some of these teams are giving us why the fvck should we show them any respect.

And don't respond with the bigger person shite.

Fans that show us some respect I have respect for.

End of Chelsea Man C fine but the 2 north London clubs can fvck right off.

We sure are the best team in the world, and have been since 2012. no other club has risen like us since 2012. We sure have the best players, best defender in world football Morgan,  best midfielder in the premiership in Mahrez, and best striker in the premiership in Vardy. I can't wait for champions league next season, can;t wait to see Messi getting totally dominated by Morgan, poor soft lad will be a chicken in the headlights, won't stand a chance. Sure ain't come up against anyone like us before. I hope we get them in our group, or even Bayern

Absolutely. There hasn't been many teams in the history of sport, let alone football, that have upset the odds as much of this.

We're lucky to be seeing one of the greatest teams of all time mentally imo.
