Finally got a completion date of June 23rd

It's been 23 years since we last moved house so I've forgotten what's involved in the moving process.

Apart from the obvious like booking a removal company, what else should we be doing over the next 3 weeks?

If anyone who's moved recently could share any advice/tips/watch outs, that would be appreciated.

Great news, mate

One thing I didn't do when we moved was change the address on my V5 - it ended up costing me a £350 fine

I contacted DVLA prior to moving but didn't realise that I also had to update the address on the cars registration docs. Sounds fairly obvious once you know, but in and amongst all the important stuff you do when you move, I didn't even think of it.

(I did ask the DVLA if they honestly thought that I'd left my car at the old house as some kind of moving in gift to the new owners)

Really frustrating process for selling our home but we are going to get an additional estate agent in the local area so hopefully get some more viewings and offers. It’s a lovely home if anyone on here or knows anyone that wants to downsize / or is a first time buyer.

To be fair that looks pretty decent. Surprised you are struggling to sell. The housing market I thought was still pretty buoyant.

Don't know loads about that side of town, but I assume it's reasonably well priced as well. Agents must want to sell not put off prospective buyers for a few k more.

A 2 bed detached house must be a difficult sale though, paying for the detached element but only 2 bedrooms. If you're a FTB and only want 2 beds, you could spend less and 2 beds isn't the next step, detached family home. And, there's a few of those for a similar budget.

Fair points mate, the 2 bedrooms are big enough one could easily be split to two rooms so effectively a 3 bed detached house. It’s not a bad house garden is fairly big as well for a FTB it wouldn’t be bad for a single person, young couple, Or an elderly couple that wants to downsize, and have the space side of things.

Yes mate reasonably well priced, tbf I would accept offers in the region of 240 plus i bought the house for just under 200k 5 years ago as a FTB , since then I am married and want to relocate to live closer to my parents in Glenfield / Western Park area.

I was going to say that both bedrooms are really only a medium size, and you definitely wouldn't be converting one into two. But, I had a quick look at floor plans for a few other properties which came up as a comparison to yours. Some of the second and third bedrooms are only 9ft x 8ft or 8ft x 7ft. So, maybe you could with yours!

I now see why the agent had our 8' x 6' 7" study listed as a potential bedroom. I had it demolished and integrated into the kitchen, as I said it was too small to be anything useful 😂

Moving day.

Removal guys turned up at 7.30 and we’re now all loaded up and house pretty much clean and ready for new owners.

Feeling a bit sad after 23 years here. Lots of memories.

Best of luck for the day, sounds like a good start

Good luck, hope all goes to plan and you reward yourselves with a suitable beverage/takeaway later!

Cheers mate. I don’t usually drink much these days but the Glenmorangie will be coming out later for sure.

Good choice! We have moved more times than I care to remember and it is always very stressful, though less so with a removal company.

Our house is currently on the market and we are hoping our next move will be the last big one.  That youtube link to that agent chap you sent has been very useful!

My house is now SSTC and MoS issued, have put an offer for a home in Glenfield which we really like, and they accepted the offer, it's now SSTC, but waiting for the sellers to find a place, before the MoS is issued, hopefully the chain above is not too upward. But hopeful of moving in to our new home by October/November all being well fingers crossed :fc:

Best of luck mate. It took us four months from accepting offer to moving in and that was with three others in the chain.

Hope you've got a decent conveyancer in place. A competent and reliable one is worth every penny IMO.

There is another property in Glenfield, we also like and managed to put an offer which was accepted, it's a 3 bed semi detached house but has more potential than the other property plus also chain free and vacant possession so is ready to move into!, me and my wife want a project house, in the sense of making it more of our own the garage can be converted to a gym / utility room and the downstairs toilet is attached to a snug room, so we are thinking of making this another bathroom plus lounge / office space as well.

Chain free and ready to move into is very appealing and if your buyers are FTB's you could exchange and complete pretty quickly I guess.

The place we've just moved into is a project/renovation and although the prospect is exciting, it's a bit overwhelming and my impatience wants it all done yesterday.

Lots of reliance on contractors availability and we've only got a certain budget so need to be mindful of costs too.

Will be amazing when it's all done but will be a bit of a journey to get there. Sounds like you've got some good ideas for the new place, hope it all works out for you.
