davieG Posted 6 September 2016 Posted 6 September 2016 Wes Morgan celebrated in Jamaica Written by The Gleaner 06/09/2016 11:28 AM ALL SMILES: Prime Minister Andrew Holness (second right) presents Reggae Boy central defender Wes Morgan (third left) with the Gold Medal of the City of Kingston THE MINISTER of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport Olivia Grange has hailed the achievements of the captain of the English Premier League team Leicester City and Jamaican international Wes Morgan. "Earlier this year, something remarkable happened. It was supposed to be impossible, yet it happened anyway," said Grange in reference to Morgan leading his club to winning the English Premier League title. Leicester City defied odds of 5,000:1 to win the championship. "At the centre of this impossible victory was one Wes Morgan of Jamaican roots," added Grange. Morgan played in every game in Leicester City's championship season and became the first black captain to lead a team to the English Premier League title. Addressing a luncheon for the national team yesterday, at which Morgan was recognised for his achievements, Grange said the footballer had demonstrated how to defy the odds, and did extraordinary things when others had written off his team. The deputy mayor of Kingston, Councillor Andrew Swaby, presented the Gold Medal of the City of Kingston to Morgan at the luncheon, which was hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport. "It is really my pleasure to sit next to Wes Morgan and see that you chose to represent Jamaica rather than England - and it means a lot to us," admitted Grange. Morgan expressed appreciation for the accolade and said he hoped his story would inspire others.

Guest Sharpe's Fox Posted 6 September 2016 Posted 6 September 2016 Probably regrets making himself eligible for Jamaica. Would definitely have one England cap with the centre backs we took to the Euros and that would probably mean a lot more to him.

His Dad has much darker skin than Vincent so you could infer that his mum is white, but it doesn't prove anything. If he is mixed race than it is no more correct to call him black as white but then does it really matter about either of them. Congrats to Wes for being awesome.

He'd get on the bench but he plays for the wrong club team to get on the pitch for england!

I don't know I reckon he has had a great time playing for the Reggae boys, getting to the concacaf final and playing the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay in the Copa America while England toil against Russia, Slovakia and Iceland.
TiffToff88 Posted 6 September 2016 Posted 6 September 2016 Was Patrick Vieira's mum from Bognor Regis?
Stevosevic Posted 6 September 2016 Posted 6 September 2016 Pretty sure he didn't chose Jamaica... He didn't think he'd be good enough for England so settled for the next option.
MPH Posted 6 September 2016 Posted 6 September 2016 Theres so much wrong in that will speech of hers! Still, nothing wrong in trying to instill a bit of national pride i suppose....

Deserves all the credit he gets though.
