Chant Question

Anyway....  I've been a Leicester fan for longer than I care to remember (first match 34 years ago)

season ticket holder and went to Old Trafford today and still enjoyed spending the day with my 14 year old lad, saw us play nicely at times and saw Gray score a worldy....  I'm too long in tooth to expect us to get it right every match (strangely my world doesn't fall in on itself!!!)...   How many times did Huth and Morgan have a bad at the office last season?...

Anyway, back on topic I loved singing away with the Leicester faithful, but, my son asked me if I was taking the Micky afterwards...

I was was singing on "on Wednesday nights, under the lights we'll be in Porto, we'll be in Bruges, in Copenhagan we'll eat your bacon..."  (Denmark = Bacon)

i think that I may have got it wrong...  anyone care to correct me?

to be clear...  This has no relationship to the bell ends who felt it was amusing to sing about bacon in in a totally inappropriate context

The trouble  with 'on Wednesday nights' it got sung at 200mph again, it is far too fast as words then get missed out of lines, why can't we sing a song at a steady slow pace?

No wonder you got the line wrong as it was too fast to understand.

It's Copenhagen it will not faze us. Prefer your version though.

Thanks for the conformation...  "We'll eat your bacon" is what I heard and what I sang (very loudly)

much in in the same way my uncle sang "happy wedding" instead "I'll be waiting" to the Yossou N'Dour and Neneh Cherry classic....

Sounds great slowed down. Bit rushed today. League 1 chants were great fun though!

Number 1...Barry Hayles.

That was a classic...

the chant around winning the second half 1-0 was - as Kevin Keegan might have put it - "grovelling at straws"

On Wednesday nights, under the lights, we'll shag your women, we'll drink your booze, in Copenhagen we'll eat your bacon, while we watch our back four have a snooze.

It's sung nice and slow in SK1!

There are people behind me at the KP who sing to Jamie Vardy... 'England's, number 1' along with numerous other mistakes but 'we'll eat your bacon' is by far the best mistake I've ever heard. Would love to change it to that.

Every chant always gets sung too quickly, always has done and I don't think it will ever change.

Even if it starts off ok, it speeds up towards the end.

One of the old Filbo chants went something like this (and I've never known the missing lyrics)

Bring on the Sunderland and Arsenal

Bring on the Scousers [starts to speed up - "by the score"?]

Barcelona, Real Madrid [something sung too quickly - indistinct]

And they won't beat the Leicester anymore..

Anyone put me out of my 25 odd years of misery?

Never does away from home though, I play guitar so know about timing and I could feel it getting faster and faster with every line, why we do it I don't know.

Didn't sound too bad in Brugges and it got sung a lot that night but the last couple of aways it's like a 33 1/3 LP on at 45rpm.

My mate used to sing "Hot Dog, Jumping Frog, Alf was Cooking" in Prefab Sprout's "King of Rock and Roll"

Here's my theory: There will often be a few people who sing too fast and that's all it takes for everyone else to speed up too.

These people might be a bit drunk or over excited which means they rush over the (brief) pauses in the song. Now I'm no psychologist but I wouldn't be surprised if, when faced with two songs being sung at different speeds, the mind wants to go for the quicker one. Perhaps because it feels as you're being left behind if you go for the slower one, even though you know it sounds better and clearer.

Just a guess though. No academic sources on hand to back any of that up!

They will make a mighty paella but they won't eat in Leicester anymore.
