Tuna Posted 11 November 2016 Posted 11 November 2016 How long before Scotland are in the same pot as San Marino, Andorra and Gibraltar?

Guest Col city fan Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Easily the worst Scotland team I've seen in my lifetime. They have nothing in the final third. That said, we put our chances away really well tonight.
Leicesterpool Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Easy game last night, the only thing we learn't was how distant we are from Scotland. Thankfully we'll not see Scotland near a major tournament for a while. It's a joke of a league they have, the SPL is probably not even League Two level in England. Plus most of the squad that do play in our league all played in the championship. On England still not convinced with Southgate, seven points from a possible nine isn't too bad but when you look at our opponents recently. We're yet to have a fully good ninety minutes under him, first half against Malta we were good but second poor, both half's against Slovenia, poor first half against Scotland, better second half.
Barky Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Wasn't keen on Southgate before but I've warmed to the idea now. Not because of the results as such but more so because of how refreshing it is to have an England manager who sounds like he has a bit of intelligence. He's not an exciting choice but I don't know anyone who is available who would be. Eddie Howe maybe or failing that a foreign manager, but the best are all tied up in club jobs. Give it Southgate and get on with it, we could do a lot worse to be honest.

foxes_rule1978 Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 We are a tournament team, not great but decent enough, Scotland are minnows and the scoreline reflects that

Always come through the qualifying rounds with a near impeccable record then are shite in the tournaments.

Absolutely, we are under achieving but I have got use to us just being okay rather than a true great team like Spain Germany etc...

Spot on. If England get to the quarter finals it's seen as a successful tournament these days.

That is a success for sure, I look back to the 90's and surprised we didn't do better, the players we had and even the ones that didn't get a look in were far better than this bunch. So I have accepted that getting out the group and winning a game at a tournament is an achievement.

That is true but we kind of missed the boat still, even a second 11 from that era would be far better than our best now. That is evidence that the PL isn't benefitting the national side at all
SystonFox Posted 12 November 2016 Posted 12 November 2016 Mate we should've won wc 2006 with the players we had. we won't be near a quarter final any time soon

Not sure if serious? Wembley was one of the best Atmospheres I've seen there tonight. All England ends were stood for 90 minutes and constant singing especially the second half with the swinging of tshirts around heads Were on our wayyyy

foxy boxing Posted 14 November 2016 Posted 14 November 2016 England are far superior in all areas so to win 3-0 is no great surprise, yes the scots gave it a go as everyone knew they would but England were comfortable although john stones needs to know when to play out and when to kick the ball away, against better opposition we will get punished and he needs to play differently for England than he does for Manchester City. same old England great in qualifying which means very little, it is at the tournaments that it really matters and can southgate change that mentallity
