Kick off tactic

Likewise it drives me mad too and I always tell the lads with me at games what is coming.

it shows a lack of confidence from the very 1st whistle in keeping the ball. And let's be honest we are no possession keeping team.

Why we would boot it upfield is beyond me and it kind of sets the tone to our performances this season

Hahaha !!Everyone is thinking the same thing I hear so many people round me saying "oh here we go again".. when we do it, just thought would do a post on here and see if other knew why, suppose the 'getting it up pitch to squeeze and win it back sounds about right & keep shape early' but still bizarre to watch us just hoof  it out (and have 2 men pretend to win the header) lol

We used to do it under Adams and I hated it then. Then we stopped doing it.

All we do is give the ball away. Nothing wrong with knocking the ball back and keeping the ball.

Dickov & Deane take kick off pass it back to Izzet who lumped it straight down the right channel to Scowcroft who to be fair would win a majority of his headers.

Nowdays we do and we don't even have anyone competing for a header.

Teams do it so you can put the opposition under pressure. If you start passing it back you then put your team under pressure. can you imagine Drinkwater passing it back to Huth while two forwards close him down at speed? People would have a heart attack!!

Back in 2007, I've actually seen the ball back at Paul Henderson's feet before the Post Horn Gallop had finished playing. It wasn't amazingly successful.

Just wondered does anybody know the reason why we pass the ball back to drinky to smack it forward and out of play from kick off ? Always wondered why we do this

Because you don't have enough players who can control the ball and treat it like anything else than a time bomb. Therefore you can't play possession fotball. Common weakness for teams at the lower end of the table. Weakness turned to an incredible strenght and accessorily gave us the title last year.

There is a reason we never have more possession than the opposition, obviously that is not how we are set up to play. So why should this be different for a kick-off.

I would much rather Leicester keep the ball and dominate a game but it is not something we can do. Look what happens in most games this season, we have a fair bit of the ball but create zero chances. Then one counter attack and we have been opened up.

We play best when we are on our back foot, up against it. Middlesbrough and West Brom home games we were best after we conceeded, it is like we wanted to get something then. At 0-0 we seem very content with keeping it tight.

I'm pretty sure we have been doing this since time began.

Loved a bit of ormondroyd in the wing from ko at filbert st.

Not sure it's ever really worked.

The players have a spread bet with the bookies on when the ball is going to go out of play

Stevie Walsh (central defender version) admitted to doing this as did Matt Le Tissier. ££££

It's done so that the whole team can push up and squeeze the ball and put the opposition immediately on the back foot. Used a lot by long ball sides in lower leagues. You will see the side that it is kicked to loaded with more players who chase the ball down and try to,win it back immediately.

From the kick off the ball always had to be kicked forward until this year, so instead of having two players by the spot at kick off you can now just have one to kick it backwards...... I don't know why it's just the new rules
