crazyleicester Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 http://talksport.com/football/revealed-10-premier-league-full-backs-who-have-created-most-chances-season-170110223114 Apparently Fuchs is 4th on the list ahead of the likes of Danny Rose. Clyne at Liverpool at number 1 even though everytime I have watched him his final ball is a shocker. Thats a decent return for Fuchs who has been benched in recent weeks. Is he under-rated or under used in more forward positions? Ive always thought he has a sweet left foot but we dont play to his strengths as often. The ball seems to find itself towards the right hand side of the pitch as we look for Mahrez. Anyway, its a decent return for chances created in a "struggling" side, even though a load were probably from throw ins
Babylon Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Absolutely underused going forward, the players have said themselves Ranieri doesn't want full backs overlapping (unless we're chasing a game) to try and stay solid. Perhaps we'll see that a bit more with 3 in the middle now.

We are lucky he is the kind of player that can create from deep, but I'd try and get him a bit further up too, not like Simpson is going anywhere is it.
Ric Flair Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 Fuchs is a very, very good all round full back. Crossing wise he's as good as any player in this squad and as has been said he's actually created goals/chances for us from deep. If he was allowed forward more often we could get even more joy. That said, Chilwell has a big part to play in this 2nd half of the season and I'm pleased with our left side. Right side we are crying out for some competition for Simpson. Hernandez is no right back and Simpson in the opposition half is a nuisance and a waste.
Kitchandro Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 His primary objective is to defend, which is the right thing. That is the way we have to use full backs if we want to play to our best. That could change if the system is different but we really need to avoid the centre backs being vulnerable. I think he was the most assisting defender last season (or at least he was around April). We know he has great quality on the ball. But not every team can have full backs bombing forward. A lot of top teams do have that but the reason we were successful is because we played differently to everyone else. Besides, Fuchs has clearly lost a bit of fitness, maybe age is catching up with him, and he's not capable of getting up and down then pitch like Rose, Clyne etc.

Considering all the cash slopping around in modern football I suggest it would be a good investment to book Chilwell in for a routine leg swap operation .... Problem solved.
Koke Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 I wish Chilwell was a right back. Azpilicueta is a right back who's played left back for years after is now playing as a third centre back. Every position he's played he's been superb. One of the most underrated players in the word. I'm amazed that there aren't more versatile defenders like that around. Wingers switch position all the time but a right back can't play left back and vice versa.
Guest CityFan 06 Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 I've always rated Clyne even when he was at Crystal Palace. At present, Tottenham's system with Walker and Rose going forward as creative fullbacks, is probably the best in the league. Liverpool also worth a notable mention.
Stadt Posted 10 January 2017 Posted 10 January 2017 He's not mobile enough to consistently get high up the pitch and besides Albrighton doesn't normally come narrower so there isn't that much space to overlap into.

Who'da thunk Milner would be a good left-back.

I don't think Fuchs has got the legs to be overlapping all the time. Chilwell seem to be continual overlapping in the two home games against West Ham & Everton (H). Simpson is natural very defensive as well. Agree with your point about 3 in the middle, wouldn't be surprised if we invested in a more offensive RB.

I'm sure there is a bit of both to it, you could have Simpson overlapping all day long and it would make no difference as he's useless in attack! ha.

I know we usually play 442 with two wide players so over lapping full backs would make us...Barcelona but when we play this 451 we need the full backs to bomb on, especially Fuchs. I agree with those not rating Simmo as an attacking force so pass that ball to Fuchs so he can make things happen. He has the ability and we all saw how sweetly he can strike the ball with that wonder goal he scored for us. 22 chances created which is 4th best in a struggling team and he has missed games. Oh, and the instruction seems to be to not go forward!!! Get forward and create more I say. 3 hours ago, spacemunky said: Who'da thunk Milner would be a good left-back. I know he takes penos for them on occasion but he doesnt show in the top 10 of the chances created list. I cant see him bombing down the pitch and cutting back on his right peg to cross many as thats not the way Liverpool play I suppose. I also cant remember too many games Ive watched him when he has put an outstanding defensive performance when he has chased wingers and blocked crosses. I admit Im not a fan and never have been. Another Gareth Barry!!!
