Still plugging away trying to learn to play the guitar. I can just about play Streets of London now (probably in a different key to the original), but find that I choke up when I try to sing it  Must be going soft in my old age.

Let me take you by the hand...

Adrian Anyone Can Play Guitar has done a tutorial video for The Smiths' Cemetery Gates, and needless to say it's GREAT. Open G tuning fun for the acoustic part which sounds dead on to me. Tabs available via his Patreon but the vid's so good not sure they're even needed really

In other exciting guitar news, Fender's Mod Shop service is now available in the UK.

Have most of their main models built to your own specs at the proper Corona, California factory. Cost isn't much more than the current American Professional II range.

No way I'll be investing any time soon but fun to play with the configuration tool:

I've not got the skillz to post a pic, but if you come up with anything particularly sweet, post a picture or describe it so we can cast our cutting judgement!

I've had a look and (unless I'm missing something) isn't as 'customisable' as I'd hoped....no thinline tele body for example.:dunno:

It has its limitations - all solid bodies for example as you've noted, but there's loads that you can muck about with. Big 70s style strat headstock! Neck profiles! Every pickup combination you can think of, within reason.

The only that I would like to see is a few more natural wood options - there's loads of colour choices but no roasted pine body which seems odd as it's an option on the current American Professional line, and very sexy IMO

Limitations (including need and money) aside, I would definitely use it....and will definitely be creating some 'guitar porn' with it!

Oh yes! Assume you used the share buttoned? Very nice indeed, I'd have gone black on the white half of the HBs.

Hadn't even realised this thread was here, so posted in the "Fingering" topic (thanks @Flamey for pointing it out).

Started work on building my own guitar this weekend, using a kit from kitbuiltguitars.co.uk. Always wanted something unique, and thought it'd be a good project.

Had to wait for a lefty kit to come into stock, but have gone for a Tele-style. Have replaced all of the stock, chrome hardware for gold equivalents (apart from the bridge, which I've had to spray gold, because I can't get a decently-priced lefty one anywhere), and am going for a translucent blue finish.

Started by shaping the headstock, sanding and staining the neck and body. Sanded again, to try to bring out the grain a bit more before spraying with the translucent blue. Enjoying so far!

I've done some pretty extensive mod projects (a few pages back) but never built my own.

Keep us posted as to your progress.

What pickups are you going to install?

It's my first time doing anything like this, so more than happy with the bog standard pickups that come with the kit for now (although, from previous reviews, they supposedly aren't too bad). Later down the line I can always look to change them.

This week I've sprayed the guitar, and this morning have wet-sanded back to give it a bit of a bit of a distressed look. Can't really see it well on the photos, though. Once it's properly dried, I'll start to clear gloss it. Also will be giving the neck a couple more coats of wood stain this afternoon.

Gold tuning pegs arrived yesterday. Just need to order the gold pickguard, now.

@Górnik Leicester any progress to report? 🤔

It's glossed, and currently curing in the garage. Takes two weeks to harden, apparently, before I can do a final sanding.

Ordered the pickguard yesterday, and a gold cover for the neck pickup. Both due to be delivered in the next few days.

I'll be oiling the neck tomorrow, and hopefully assembling towards the back end of this week. Been watching plenty of YouTube videos on the wiring side of it, as that's the bit I'm a bit nervous about.
