Frederik Nielsen (Forest) Reveals Leicester Trials

Nottingham Forest defender Frederik Nielsen feels the time is right to move on so will leave the club at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Nielson has been a regular in the in the U23 side but hasn't been able to force himself into the Forest first team squad so feels the time is right for pastures new.

He told Viborg Folkeblad, via the Nottingham Post.

'I feel that the time for a move away is just right now. I have spoken to my agent (and said) that I did not get quite the same challenge and have not developed enough for me.'

Adding.

'I miss being able to go home from training and feel that I have improved. So it makes sense that I now have to try something else. It must be said that the club has been extremely good to me. I have developed my game a lot since I came. And I'm super happy with the people I have worked with along the way.'

The Danish defender, who came to the City Ground from Viborg in 2014, revealed he's had trials with Leicester but wasn't offered a contract - Nielson also claims he's been invited back to spent six weeks training with the Foxes in the summer.

He said the experience with the Premier League Champions was a 'dream come true' with Nielson holding ambitions of one day playing in the topflight in England.

'When I trained with them all the big stars were there. The only one who was not there was Kasper Schmeichel, who had some minor (injury) problems. So it was really a big leap. It has been a huge dream that has come true in that I have been allowed to train with such good players and some big stars. So it is in itself huge. My big dream is to play in the Premier League, so that I have been allowed to train with them and see what they are doing is very instructive.'

Nielson went on to add he hadn't decided if he would take up the offer to train with Leicester again in the summer.

The 19 year old finished by saying there's mixed feelings about leaving Forest but he'll do this in the best interest on his career having slipped away from first team contention, something Nielson thought was close under former boss Philippe Montanier.

'I could see that there was a way forward here at the club. But when the manager was fired that changed. I felt that I was put back. Now, it's like the Under-23 team is together and the first-team squad is together. I want to be in and around the first-team, but I am not. And it's super annoying because I was so close.'

Bit of a nothing story as far as Leicester are concerned, seeing as he isn't being offered a contract here after getting released by a team on the brink of relegation to League One?

I think the most important thing to glean from this story is that it is every Nottingham Forest players dream to get a shot of even training with the Leicester City squad.

I just remembered another Nielsen we had on our books. Jimmy Nielsen aka Casino Jimmy.

I think every Florist player would dream at playing anywhere away from the Shity Ground.

Former Nottingham Forest youngster aiming to earn Leicester City contract

Former Nottingham Forest defender Frederik Nielsen is hoping to earn a contract with Leicester City as he prepares for a six-week training camp with the Premier League side.

The Dane revealed earlier this year that he had been on trial with the Foxes and had been invited back in the summer, as he confirmed he would leave the Reds at the end of the season.

Initially it was reported Nielsen had not decided whether to accept Leicester's offer – as they told him they would not be able to offer a contract.

But the 19-year-old says he has still not given up hope of playing in English football's top-flight with the former champions.

"I love summer vacation now, but on July 2 I am going back to England to begin a training camp for six weeks with Leicester City," he told Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet.

"The dream is of course a contract with them and to then get the chance to play in the Premier League.

"Leicester have given me a training programme. A fairly detailed programme where I need to make sure to keep myself fit by weight training, running, cycling and swimming.

"Otherwise it becomes too hard when I start over there and I run the risk that my muscles cannot keep up. An injury would be just about the worst thing that could happen to me."

Nielsen joined Forest from Viborg in 2014 and although he racked up appearances for the Under-23s side, he did not get a chance with the first-team.

Frustrated at a perceived lack of opportunities, the teenager made it clear his time with the Reds was coming to an end as the campaign drew to a close.

As well as his links with Leicester, he had a trial at Barnsley in April – playing against Jack Lester's young Reds in a match at Oakwell.

Nielsen says he has had offers from other clubs, but the King Power Stadium is his preferred destination.

"They have been highest on my list. They can offer me a lot of training. The intensity is the best I've tried," he added.

"I really believe that I can develop further there. Their physical department is really good and Leicester are known for working hard on the pitch.

"I'm just looking forward to it and you can call it an exam. They know, on the other hand, who I am and what I stand for."

Nielsen says Leicester's Under-23 players are more integrated when it comes to training with the first-team – something he feels was not always the case at Forest.

"That was exactly something I missed a lot in Nottingham," he said. "Everybody coaches in the morning, and I have the impression that everyone is talking – at all levels."

Signed from Danish club Viborg FF earlier this season, defender Nielsen’s physical stature makes him an exciting project for staff at the Nigel Doughty Academy.

Brazil said: “He is a colossal size. He obviously does well in the air, but he’s never had to jump before because he’s so much bigger than everybody else. We’re slowing the process down with Freddie, teaching him many of the basic fundamentals of movement, strengthening him up and then putting him back on the park where we believe we’re going to have a lot of success with him.

“He’s very good at developing play from the back. We’ve got to teach him a bit more about his defending and also, because he’s such a big unit, he’s never really had to be that aggressive, which he’s going to have to be in the British game.

“If we can get those attributes into him we’re on to a real winner with this kid. We’re quite excited at being given the opportunity to work with him for the next few years.”
