Trick question.

Indeed

She will never get to the 1 foot mark because you keep adding smaller and smaller amounts!

Yeah but surely those smaller and smaller amounts will eventually add up to 1 foot? :dunno:

No.

Each time she will be only able to jump half the amount required to reach the goal.

Yeah but she's still jumping something each time. So surely all those somethings (however small) will eventually all add up to a foot?

How far can you run into the woods?

Halfway, after which you are running out of the woods.

No because it's fractional.  Say you have a cake and eat half of it leaving you half a cake.  Then you eat half of that piece leaving you 1/4 of a cake.  Then you eat half of that and it leaves you 1/8 of a cake.  However long you keep going. you will always have half of the previous piece remaining.  Same logic applies.

Unfortunately, I can't think of a simpler way to explain the concept.

Even if she was only the width of an atom short, she can only jump the width of half an atom; when she is the width of half an atom short, she can only jump the width of a quarter of an atom, and so on to infinity.
