stability or not stability....

Chelsea have shown unlike my club arsenal that you can be unstable with coaching changes and still win

watford the same have been in the league despite mutiple manager changes, swansea went through 3 and survived

But I am still convinced as a club a long term vision in the coaching department breeds success

the team of pearson, sheakespare and walsh was a success factory that went through divisons and built a team that went on to do a miracle in modern terms and win the league

the next move is so important for the owners to get right, it needs to be a three or four year vision.

Totally agree.

We need somebody with fresh ideas who will build a team, build a structure. And it needs to be someone who isn't scared to tell these players where to go and get rid of some of them.

I really, relally really hope our Owners understands this too.

I've said before I'd rather get relegated and fight for promotion than become a 'stable' PL club, going from one dull manager to another every 18 months and aiming for 12th.

We've been spoilt, not only with the CL and the PL win but the great escape, promotion, play off dramas etc. And for fans of my age, cup wins and promotions in the 90s and early 2000s.

So a cup run would be great but just staying up under Allardyce doesn't thrill me, I'll be honest.

They may understand but I'm not sure they care. Simply staying in the PL is all that matters to most owners.

we really screwed the stability pooch when we failed to build on the league win.

Right. We have utterly, utterly blown that opportunity. Spectacularly so.

Laughing to myself on the bus, like a lunatic, at the thought of the 15/16 Premier League Champions, who were still the honour holders only 5 or so months ago, with big Michael fvcking Appleton at the helm. What a total disaster.

I believe the reason we got rid of Shakespeare now is not because we are fearful of relegation but because we've made the investment into the squad so that we can push for Europe. I'd argue that Koeman at Everton has done worse than CS even though Everton are above us.

This appointment will say everything about the ambition of the club. If we bring in Allardyce, though he's steady we might as well admit we are happy to be a bottom 5 team that battles to stay up every year.

Go for a younger manager / more prestigious manager with a different style of play and it will say we have the ambition to go places, even if initially we don't do as well.

I hope we go for the latter!

Shakespeare seemed to have ambition at the start of his reign, he was talking about qualifying for the CL and aiming to win every game.

However in the last few weeks this changed to been happy with draws and of course setting up defensively.
