Wi fi boosters

Recommended Posts

So I've just moved into the new place, got the wifi sorted, but the only BT plug socket is in the bedroom and the wifi is poor in the living room for streaming games and films etc.

I've looked at a few wifi extenders but I don't know what is best, it's only a 60mbs line so nothing super fast, any recommendations?

No that's just a wifi extender that you'd plug the router into, that wouldn't do the job.

Something like this https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-pa4010kit-av600-nano-powerline-starter-kit-a89wh

Although my preference is a pass through so you're not losing a socket, such as https://www.maplin.co.uk/p/tp-link-4010pkit-av600-passthrough-powerline-starter-kit-a88wh

Word of advice: if your home is old, your download and upload speeds may be seriously hindered if you use a powerline adapter. I've never had good experiences with them, was on BT Infinity 2 (80/20Mbps at the time) and using a powerline adapter set, was getting 12 Mbps, which was 3/4 times slower than how it was just using wireless. It will get you a solid connection most of the time, almost certainly, however.

I've got a powerline adapter, I was looking at buying another 2 so I could plug stuff in around the house. I asked on amazon about some if they would be compatable with the ones I've got, they said I'd have to plug 1 into the router and 1 wherever it was needed. Is that right? I was hoping I could buy 2 and use them in different room working off the one I've already got plugged into the router.

Yes, as long as they're paired you can have as many as you like.

You only need one plugged into the router  I've had one plugged in my sky box and one connected to my laptop in the past.

I'm not sure if I'm not explaining my self clearly or I'm misunderstanding the answers. Bear with me I'm crap at technology.

Atm I have 1 plugged into the router and 1 at the back of my telly connecting my TV and Kodi box. What I'd like is 1 plugged into the router and three adapters around the house.

Yeah they can just tag onto the same line. As long as you've got one into the router then you can buy as many more as you like and put them around the house. They'd have to be compatible with the ones you already have though

Eg. - you originally buy the starter pack and then you buy a single pack

This might help https://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-319.html

Right, I've talked to talktalk and they're no use. I've been googling and the ones I have atm are;

 DHP-P326AV   https://www.ebay.co.uk/i/292436576865?chn=ps&adgroupid=52137191441&rlsatarget=pla-380309525731&abcId=1129946&adtype=pla&merchantid=6995734&poi=&googleloc=1006525&device=c&campaignid=974961043&crdt=0

If I bought these would they work as I've asked before? Is there a new alternative that would be compatible?

Have you informed the seller about it/return and refund etc?

I'm not sure that they don't work at all, they just don't connect with the 2 I've already got.
