Chapel ain't a bad place tbf.

A few well priced pints, an award winning chippy and LOTR pinball at the golden Palm.

Nice little weekend for the (big) kids.

Does anyone not from Nottingham or Leicester (and Derby to a lesser extent) visit the Lincolnshire coast?

Genuinly never met anyone from anywhere else up their

The problem (stretching the definition there) is there are so many attractive coastlines around England, Wales and Scotland. Why go to Lincs when there are better options around? At least there are sandy beaches, but the North Sea isn't great climate wise much of the year. I currently go down to Hastings quite a lot, and from hill walks, to cosy pubs with real fires and lots of live music places and festivals throughout the year, I love the place. One thing it doesn't have is a sandy beach. If I wanted to go further afield (I live in London) then the south west, Devon and Cornwall would appeal. Having said that, , my Dad's family were from Grimsby so I wouldn't rule out going one last time to Cleethorpes.

Hastings is cool. Huge deprivation which I presume is now normalised across uk coastlines. But it’s cheap and has all the above amenities you mention, and a lot of good restaurants. Pelican diner is the best cafe in the world imo.

Had various cask ales across fitzrovia last night, still think it’s the most underrated area of central London

Good you found plenty of places open. A lot of pubs in Central London close for Christmas week as their core customer base, the commuters, are not around. Agree that Fitzrovia is a good night zone, still busy but avoids the worst of Covent Garden/Soho.

I feel the same. The settlements on the coast are just crap - some of the inland towns have their charms, Grantham I think is actually quite attractive. Horncastle is nice, Bourne & Stamford are great.

The wolds at least break up the flat landscape too but CSL, Ingoldmells, Skegness etc are just so dated.

Yeah you're right there are some nice parts but I think it has the highest proportion of horrible bits, Boston is perhaps the worst place I've been to in Europe. And even in the medieval period it was known for producing quite rough people.

fair play to them, I personally think this is the worst month of the year to do it: cold, dark, gloom, depressing....

After my trip to CP start of Jan I'm having a good spell off it. No specific time frames though.

Ahaaaa my old boy is bang into Tweedy, we coincidentally bumped into him on a routine visit to the Carlton in Kilburn, dead nice bloke and great videos, hasn't bought into that choppy content creator nonsense, really great pacing to his videos and he does a great deep dives.

Unsurprisingly it's been a very heavy Xmas period! Last day of drinking today for hopefully a month. I did a Loughborough pub crawl the other day: Organ Grinder, Wheeltapper, Needle & Pin, Swan in the Rushes, and White Hart. Loughborough has good drinking options for the size of the town, especially considering it's got a Blue Monkey and Castle Rock pub, albeit it's not the best Castle Rock pub. The pick of the bunch is probably the White Hart, which is the same guy as the Castle in Leicester. I'm not really into Porters and Stouts, but I had a really nice Castle Rock one - Door of the Cosmos.

Loughborough is definitely a better crawl than Leicester if you're into ale for me. Infinitely nicer vibe, too.

Would also be good to get more of us on Untappd. Poor old Mr O’Grady must not get a good impression from my ticks!

😂 respect to Western for keeping the Leicester pubs going! Happy New Year all! Got some good crawls booked in for next year (partly inspired by this thread) but won’t be in January!
