Soar Fox Posted 2 June 2018 Posted 2 June 2018 Just switched mine from Ovo who’s customer service was terrible to First Utilty. Saving around £20 per month.

Urm, just do it online, that's what I did. I think eon should use your credit towards your last bill automatically if you're closing your account with them? Maybe not, these companies are robbing bastards at times!
Ross-Kemp Posted 2 June 2018 Posted 2 June 2018 Any credit will be automatically taken off your final bill @Unabomber. Just make sure you give the new supplier meter readings (and keep note of these) when switching and your final bill will be accurate. ALL SMART (SMETS2) should be interoperable by the end of the year too which means you can switch supplier without having to have a new SMART meter fitted.
Raj Posted 3 June 2018 Posted 3 June 2018 Anyone who is on a standard tariff needs shooting. It's SO simple nowadays to swap using comparison sites like uSwitch you owe it to yourself to save some £££
lifted*fox Posted 1 July 2018 Author Posted 1 July 2018 Just thought I'd bump this thread... We've been with Bulb for a couple of months now and they've been bang on. The switch was effortless and they deliver with the referral system - we've had over £250 of credit added to our account (5 referrals signed up) and they use that credit to pay for your energy bill. The phone app works fine for submitting readings and I've spoken to one of their staff on the phone and they were polite and helpful. We're saving on our bills (quite significantly at the moment) over our old British Gas account. For anyone sitting on your current energy supplier because you can't be bothered to switch, etc. It's a 2 minute job - pop onto the Bulb website, check their prices and if you fancy it use my referral code to sign up. We'll both have £50 of credit added to our account if you do. bulb.co.uk/refer/darrellb2041 Thanks m8s. x

Hope so still dunno how it’s gonna work with my credit with eon etc. Also it’s saying £64 a month with bulb which is ok but are they gonna spank me in winter? Or will it remain consistent

Currently paying just under £170 a month, and my quote was £93. I'm pretty sure it won't be that low, but it will definitely be less than BG.
lifted*fox Posted 9 July 2018 Author Posted 9 July 2018 Nah man, once you give them a few meter readings it'll come down. They just estimated at £64 but I bought mine down to £40 now. You can change what they take at any point because you pay up front for your energy, not in retrospect.

The water board rang me when they said I was to get a £380 bill saying it was way up and I may have a leak. This half year it jumped to £780. It appears they have the metres mixed up and I am paying someone else’s bill, who just so happens has a leak. £75 a month is something like a family of 6 who have a condition, which means they feel unclean and take 5 baths each a day.

Good point, I'll check it out. As it happens, I do have a medical condition which means I flush the toilet a lot. There's something called Water Aid (a discount) which I applied for but apparently you only qualify if you're on disability benefit and I don't bother claiming that (although I could). We also have two kids so the washing machine is on constantly but even so it's still too expensive so I'll look into it. Cheers
AyewJoking Posted 10 July 2018 Posted 10 July 2018 Bulb Quoted £60 per month. My current payments are £133 and they still tell me im using about £155! Wont say which provider cos that would be gossiping. (Its npower) Sounds too good to be true though. Yeah, they quote me £60 based on a two bed flat but when they see first hand how much energy we use, will i be saving much money?

AyewJoking Posted 10 July 2018 Posted 10 July 2018 Just been on money supermarket and the cheapest they offered for my address was £93 per month. Confused(not the website) now that i could go to bulb for their cheap quote but never actually pay that small amount.

Cheers On my bill ( Northumberland water) it tells you how many litres (or some other measurement) you use, and it works out what size of family usually use that amount of water If it’s not on your bill, put on here how many litres or whatever the measurement is you use per half year and I will tell you what it says. But best way to check is just take a metre reading before you go out and check if it’s moved when you come back.

Yeah, they quote me £60 based on a two bed flat but when they see first hand how much energy we use, will i be saving much money? hi mate when I signed up to switch over to bulb their initial quote showed me a yearly bill of approx. £700 as opposed to the £1000 I'm was paying with British Gas. once signed up they predicted that a monthly payment of £66(ish) will see me through the year (12 x £66 = £792). after giving them a few metre readings (summer readings) they told me that they recommend a payment of £45 per month, at this time, so I've reduced my direct debit to £45. It may go back up in the winter but it's nice to have the flexibility. bulb are different in that they require you to pay money up front for your energy but they allow you to adjust your direct debit. they show you exactly what you use and they show you how they work out what they think you will use and the predictions are pretty spot on. also there is no contract - so if you join bulb and find that it doesn't work for you then you can leave with no exit fee and no contract. I've had 6 people sign up now and a few of them have been with bulb for a couple of months and they're happy with how it's working out. can't hurt to give it a try considering it seems npower are charging you far too much. bulb.co.uk/refer/darrellb2041 if you decide to give it a go that's my referral above. if you use it we both get £50 towards our energy bills (which is another nice saving). hope that helps give you a bit of confidence to give it a try.

I was with First Utility until recently and their customer service was so terrible that the ombudsman made them pay me £480.00. That was satisfying after their own resolution team offered me £60.00 with a time limit on acceptance.

Just on it now, have never changed suppliers before, very lazy. They are quoting me about £20 per month less than eon. Where do they get their figure from?
David Guiza Posted 10 July 2018 Posted 10 July 2018 Just moved to Bulb also, used Richard Herring's link as he's on about it all the time, can't be any worse than NPower and also great that they use renewable energy.

Where do they get their figure from? I take it you input your usage figures into their website when you got a quote? They then just work out approx. what you would pay with them based on their lower wholesale energy costs. As mentioned, my bills have been lower as they quoted - no surprises or higher bills than I was expecting, etc. They've done exactly what they said they would including a quick and easy switch-over (they closed my old account with British Gas, I didn't have to speak to them once). If they're quoting £20 less a month then that's what I'd expect to pay, based on experience. Hope that helps!

Put in my postcode and that it was a house and it came out with the quote, then the next screen was asking for my bank details to complete the switch.
