Robert Bakewell is credited for pioneering selective breeding which has huge historical significance. 

 

I cant find a proper source but Leicestershire is supposedly the birthplace of modern English.

 

Also according to Geoffrey of Monmouth the city was founded by King Leir.

 

Britain’s first jet engine was produced in Lutterworth.

 

Historically Leicestershire has been vitally important but midlanders (particularly from the East Midlands) are probably the most modest and self deprecating British people
