I discovered the other day that the person who created the first "Browser" for the World Wide Web, was studying at Leicester Polytechnic when she worked with Berners Lee to effectively give us.. The Web!

Nicola Pellow https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicola_Pellow

For many here I expect imagining a time without the internet is incomprehensible the change that society has seen since its introduction is mindboggling.

Do you have an unknown Leicester legend (perhaps excluding football)

Sir Alec Jeffreys

When you think of all the criminals put away and so the innocent people cleared because of DNA fingerprinting that man deserves a Nobel prize.

This guy is more than a legend. It’s hard to imagine how much impact this guy has had lives across the world over the last 30 years.

How many people are now behind bars that may not have been convicted?

How many potential serial killers have been convicted before they have become serial killers?

How many murderers and rapists have been locked away, several years later due to what this guy created?

The list can go on and on. I think of him whenever I watch the murder programmes on the TV. He is very rarely mentioned, but I always wonder if the conviction would have happened if he hadn’t been around.

And let’s not forget those that have been found not guilty due to DNA evidence. Wrongful convictions will be down dramatically because of him.

It was a game changer of the highest proportions, legend is not a big enough word for him.

John Deacon (Queen bassist)

Being a massive Queen fan I have known a.long time that he's from Leicester, but I'm not sure how well known that fact is. Sorry if it's already common knowledge!

Deep Purple's Jon Lord too. Met him once before he sadly died, lovely bloke and very proud of his Humberstone roots.

My Mum was a classmate of his, a fact she often brings up in conversation.

Cue moment of embarrassed silence as @Buce wonders whether he should admit that he used to go out with @SouthStandUpperTier's Mum. lol

Hang on! Look at those 2 avatars......it's not a secret father/son scenario, is it?

lol

My brother was the one in the same class, Alf, not me.

I would have been 8 or 9 years old at the time.

I'd have had good money on you being an early maturer, Buce. ;)

My daughter is a student there - would you care to elaborate?

The footballers were twats, they cheated at cricket, tried to cheat at chess, were violent at rugby.

I don't hold a grudge at all.

From Cambridge, so obviously I could sound like a Yorkshireman when it comes to inventions etc

but as it’s a football forum ,I will add just one from Cambridge, apologies for hijacking the thread.

So we can blame you for N'Didi's sending off the other week?
