I know there’s a golf thread. But this bad boy needs it’s own.

USA looking very strong.

Who would your wildcard picks be for Europe? One of the best sporting events in the world. Can’t wait for it to begin.

Nice one Bert, defo needs it's own thread

The US team looks frightening, if it was in the States I think we'd get slaughtered. The Wildcard picks I WANT are Stenson, Garcia, Pouter and Casey. I know they're not all in great form but we need experience and the RC will bring out the best in them I'm sure.

I had the privilege of going to the RC in both '89 and '02 at the Belfry and hands down it's the best sporting theater I've ever witnessed. Proper hairs on the back of your neck stuff. Can't wait for it to start..

Got a mate heading over to France for all three days. Certainly need some experience in there. Doesn’t matter to me what form they’re in, everyone raises their game for the Ryder cup. Think I’m gonna have to watch Miracle at Medinah in the near future.

I've still got the BBC highlights of the last day at Medinah saved on my freeview box and I still watch it now and again. There was also a superb half hour documentary on Justin Rose on Sky Sports last night where he talks about it and goes into great detail about his singles win over Mickleson - great stuff. The Oliver Holt book on it is also brilliant read and I still think it's the most remarkable comeback in all of sporting history.

Delighted with our wildcard picks and I don’t think we have a weak link in the European team this time around.

Saying that, I can’t see a weak link in the US team either. Bring it on!

I said in the golf thread that I felt Wallace should've got a pick and I still do. I feel it's a bit of a transitional period for the European team where the likes of Westwood are on their way out.

If you're Matt Wallace you've got to be fuming and quite rightly so IMO, won 3 times this year and don't get a pick. Stenson and Garcia don't have a win between them. However, Bjorn really had no choice following the picks of the US team yesterday. Their younger generation is tearing up fields regularly these days and they picked Tiger and Phil to go with them. Their team looks absolutely fantastic and they will go to Paris as heavy favourites I would imagine.

I have a feeling the course won't suit the Americans and that may be a saving grace for Europe. The likes of Fleetwood, Rose, Molinari, McIlroy, Rahm are as elite as any of the American side. If Bjorn can fashion some good pairings we have a good chance to win. Let's not forget we also have Noren who won at Paris National this year!

Bring it on.

A little quiz from Sky Sports to get the juices flowing..

https://www.skysports.com/golf/news/12176/11503044/ryder-cup-quiz-test-your-knowledge

Made a couple of absolute howlers, got 9/15.

I really think Europe are going to win, the course will play into our hands and I believe they are underestimating us. The fact that only Justin Thomas bothered to play Paris National this year at the French Open I find astounding. They have known for ages that the Ryder Cup will be there, why wouldn't you go play?

I think Fleetwood and Rahm will star as rookies, Poulter will turn it on and Tommy Bjorn will have a gold trophy in his hands at the end of the week.

Bring it on.

Apparently 6 of the US team have never seen the course before this week - bizzare.

Up until last week I thought the US were favorites but as it gets closer I'm changing my mind :D Interesting that Mickelson, Koepka, Reed etc. all played shit in the tour championship and Spieth didn't qualify so I wonder if some of them aren't in great form atm.

I really like the balance of our team and the captains picks and we match up pretty well I think - no obvious weak links on our team.

It's all set up to be one of the best RC's ever I reckon and I'm counting the hours now. Friday 6.00am - Sunday 7.00pm I'll be glued to the TV.

The RC beats any other sporting occasion for me. It's non stop drama and golf of the highest quality. I'm like a kid before Xmas :D

"Interesting pairings for the morning four-balls Izzy, what do you think?"

"Well Izzy, I like how he's blooding four rookies and probably Noren in the afternoon so they all get to play day 1"

"I agree Izzy, what do you think the score will be after the first four matches?"

"I reckon 2-2 Izzy. Can't wait for it to get started"

Think this could be a classic...hoping it doesnt happen but I have a horrible feeling we could see a miracle in Medinah in reverse, first couple of days to belong to Europe but once USA get to grips with the course they will steal it come singles.

Have to be honest, a bit dissapointed in @Izzy Muzzett thought he was a bit of a golf nut so thought he'd contribute more to this thread tbf.....

Fancy Rose and Rahm in the top match for sure. After that I'm less confident.

I really can't see McIlroy and Olesen beating Fowler and DJ. Casey and Hatton has the makings of a good pair but up against it against Spieth and JT.

However I think Fleetwood and Molinari will outlast Reed and Woods.

So I will go with the great Izzy and go for a 2-2.

Europe to be leading after day 1 following a 3-1 win in the foursomes. Cheers.

going for;

finau & koepka

rory & oleson

spieth & thomas

tommy & molinari

all DNB.

really fancy fleetwood in this, gonna back him for everything. point scorer, best rookie, to win all his matches. smashed up the course before and reckon he doesn’t know what pressure is.

John Rahm on the first tee, what a geezer :D

Unbelievable confidence for such as young bloke.

I can't see Rahm and Rose losing if I'm honest, started nicely too.

I can't say the same for Olesen and Rory, Rory looks like he might be on his own for the first few holes.

I’m surprised Furyk put Koepka and Finau out first tbh. I really like the look of Rose and Rahm.

As always it will come down to who makes the most putts. Been a great start though and the crowds are massive and raucous as usual.

Spieth with his usual RC putting masterclass.

He an absolute magician with the flat stick and on his day the best putter in the world for me.

Cant get my head around where his games at though. I know elite golf is so difficult and for one player to dominate is nigh on impossible but he should be winning more than he has done given his game and ultimately his putting.
