Carl the Llama Posted 22 January 2019 Posted 22 January 2019 In terms of the physical sport obviously it's 100% right to separate the sexes, but when it comes to the mental side of things there's absolutely no reason a woman shouldn't be allowed to compete presuming she's demonstrated the necessary qualities relative to their rival candidates. Obviously that's not easy to do given that male managers have the huge advantage of being brought through in the men's game during their careers and it's fair to say the women's game isn't up to the same standard. Starting in the conferences and working your way up is probably the most realistic route for any female manager seriously considering giving it a shot.

Same applies to refs, refs assistants, pundits, commentators, officials, I don't care really. No problem with any of them being women as long as they're there on merit. What ****s me off at the moment with Sky, BT and the Beeb all the same is tokenism. Premier League football on the telly, the pundits are all ex Premier league players, you won't find a non league journeyman or a football league journeyman there anywhere. Most of them were top level, won trophies, international caps at all. Watch a football league game, it'll all be football league ex players that were around for years, experienced promotions etc, watch non league on BT it'll be a few bigger names from non league football that played there and know that level. Watch SPL it'll all be Scots pundits that played hundreds of games in Scottish football. Major international tournaments, out come all the foreign World class stars that won multiple international caps. It's nothing to do with race, gender, religion, sexuality, they just pick players who've played at that relevant level. So what's with the obsession with token female pundits at the moment who have absolutely no idea what it means to play top level Premier league football? It's just cringe worthy. What relatable experience do they have to convey? I mean if you're going to just have journalists on the panel then no problem, I think it works well on the European football show or on the old Revista de la Liga. In which case, if they know football, I don't care what's between their legs. But if Chelsea are playing Tottenham, don't roll out Aluko, whack a graphic on the screen saying she scored thirty odd in seventy appearances for Chelsea and act like she's an expert on the inner workings of the Chelsea men's team like she's Lampard or Terry or something. ... I may have gone slightly off topic. Agree. Female or not. I woulndn't care. No different to a person's skin colour, religion, disability, sexuality, etc etc(why do we make an issue of it when it doesn't really need to be?) First black this, First female that, First gay whatever. . As long as they can do the job and it's not A PC exercise, they can be a pink 3 headed Martian with Aspergers and in a wheelchair for all I care as long as they know something about football. Im surprised we havent had a female manager or referee already in the top flight mens game. (Then again there's plenty of UK coaches & players not getting a look in because the perception that foreign one's are better let alone giving a woman a go. But that's another debate) . Ive seen Sian Massey run the line lots of times and, apart from Andy Gray & Richard Keys, I've never heard her slagged off for being female. Making a shit decision maybe, but not for being a woman. I'd even argue she is higher quality than a lot of her male colleagues.
Finnegan Posted 24 January 2019 Posted 24 January 2019 I'd much rather Sian Msssey run the line than most anyone else in the league. Firstly, to get where she is in the men's game she's got to be ****ing good. Secondly, she knows more than any other lino in the league she can't afford to nod off and miss something because she'll get absolutely slaughtered. But mostly because she's a hell of a lot fitter and faster than all the other fat old weezers that can't actually keep up with play.
Sly Posted 25 January 2019 Posted 25 January 2019 I’m surprised a “top club” hasn’t done this yet. Just imagine the social media buzz / meltdown .....
Carl the Llama Posted 29 January 2019 Posted 29 January 2019 @The Horse's Mouth what did you disagree with, specifically? Not like I'm scorning the idea but I'd be surprised if the first ever female manager in the men's game got a job with one of the big boys. It would be great pr for them but to use a cliche it's a results business and I can't see the money men funding the gamble on an unproven manager for publicity alone.

I may have gone slightly off topic. With all fairness, could you really have someone having no experience of playing in the premier league doing punditry on that? Let me tell you, if I was a player and watching a non-league/lower league journeyman who had never reached the level I was playing at, i wouldn’t be happy if someone like that was slating me. It’s like Darren Gough on Talksport giving it large about football when he was a cricketer.

I wasn't saying it was a bad thing that all the pundits are pretty much commentating on the level they played at. That's the point isn't it. Even Robbie Savage, with about 300 Premier league appearances has had stick in the past for criticisms of people like John Terry.

Don't worry about funding, it'll be alot cheaper having a woman as manager.
RonnieTodger Posted 1 February 2019 Posted 1 February 2019 It will take a long time, but when you think about it - why not? As long as they have the same understanding of football as managers, then what does it matter about their gender or playing career? None of Brendan Rodgers, Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger played to a high standard but they're all great managers. Sure, I bet they'd have bossed it as players in the WSL but that doesn't matter. Completely agree with Finnegan about the punditry too. There's a middle ground and whilst the likes of Alex Scott are generic, they're below ex PL players that are good pundits (Neville & Carragher) and above ex PL players that are shite (Mills & Merson etc)
