Transfer market memories

Didn’t Taylor spend a fortune bringing Wise and Walker into the Club then set the tone for the new season with a 5-0 defeat by Bolton .

I also recall one close season where our sole purchase was Mark Blake for £350k

If my memory serves me correct we signed Speedie and Gavin Ward that summer and got Blake mid season. Hewas a record signing for us at the time! How things have changed:scarf:

I was 13 years old and in Florida when Speedie signed. My Dad was on the phone to my older brother who told us the news.

I cried and demanded that my Dad returned our season tickets immediately.

I may have been a tad hasty.

It's difficult to know which of the transfer sagas were founded in reality vs which were just bullshit from start to finish.

Maynard sticks in my memory for just dragging on forever. Didn't he publicly call us tinpot?

Cambiasso was delightful. I distinctly remember the OP's first post on the subject: "Oh ho ho, now we're talking"

The Sven windows were a blast. We have tightened up a lot since then, you can discard 95% of sources easily.

Hahahaa madness under Sven. Nugent took ages to sign but it had been agreed supposedly for months.
