Wolfboy Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 We were heavily linked to James McCarthur and then after a few links of Leicester getting bids rejected, this happened...

VLC86 Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 Jimmy Kebe having to spend the rest of his life at the KP after turning up to sign about 10 years ago. RIP Jimmeh.
Wolfox Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 Amartey in the Morrison’s car park seems to have gone into transfer talk folklore
MC Prussian Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 Technically not a true Leicester City transfer market story, but always remember that Roy Essandoh Ceefax story with Wycombe in the FA Cup... Sealed Peter Taylor's fate, that. Add to that the plethora of players we were linked with under Martin Allen. The fact that Steve Walsh, our then-scout, was looking at another player (Ryan Mendes) in France when he spotted Riyad Mahrez by accident. Alireza Jahanbakhsh heavily linked with a move last summer, only to land at Brighton. Fantastic season for the lad - 0 goals, 0 assists. Apparently, we were also once in discussion with Ronaldinho: https://www.mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20160203/301858372968/ronaldinho-rechazo-al-leicester-y-apunta-al-futbol-chino.html Leonardo Ulloa publicly slating the club on Twitter after being "betrayed" by Ranieri, handing in a transfer request, only to withdraw it and stick with the club for another year. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/38802643 Claudio Ranieri discovering an Italian part-time footballer working as a waiter in Nice, inviting him for training at Belvoir Drive, then signing him: https://www.leicestermercury.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/leicester-city-retained-list-italian-2955130 Harry Kane's unsuccessful loan spell at Leicester - I think we did take the mick out of him back then. The tragic case of Michael Johnson, who played his last few professional games of football with us, if I'm not mistaken. The legend that is Yakubu. Jermaine Beckford's legendary interview after he had signed for us ("Only weak people feel pressure").

Gone are the days of the simple transfer that'd come out of the blue, or be done quite easily. I was too young but I imagine the likes of Draper, Elliott, Eadie and Akinbiyi (just going for the record signings) were quite straightforward without weeks and months of paper speculation. I have this strange memory of reading Ceefax in my parent's bedroom on the "old" deadline day in 2001 and being excited we'd spent £600k on Lee Marshall. Or being even more giddy when we got Dean Sturridge, in what I considered at the time as an 11 year old a bargain, for just £350k. The summer of 2003 when we signed everyone for free and started building brand new team. Paul Brooker, Les Ferdinand and the exotic Lilian Nalis. It seemed so exciting through my young, naive eyes. Even the summer of 2004 when we put a Football Manager-esque age filter of 30+ on the transfer search to buy players that made me think we'd storm the league easily. I remember seeing Corica and Taylor getting signed on teletext in the 90s Clubcall was ITK back in the day
winteriscoming Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 Craig mackail smith. Remember being really disappointed when he decided to join Brighton instead of us. ?

Langston Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 There was a string of really exotic sounding trialists from far flung corners of the globe under Sven - Eric Norales (Honduras), Razak Omotoyssi (Benin) and Bernard Parker (South Africa) all played behind closed doors for us.
VLC86 Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 I feel like we should at least be able to talk about Preki day in this thread. Up there with my top 10 city moments going from sheer rage at us appointing some school teacher as a manager to watching a school broadcast of him announcing he was taking a job in England. Never forget.

Morales was the bloke allegedly on a flight over to sign for us. Probably a Malaysia airlines flight
Poznan34 Posted 17 June 2019 Posted 17 June 2019 Does anyone remember Marco Ferreira? Signed on loan from Benfica. One of many many 07/08 signings. Remember hearing that we'd signed him on the radio and being excited at an exotic name. Doesn't look like he ever played for us. Nice that his picture on transfermarkt is in a lcfc shirt! Bet there's a good story in it https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marco-ferreira/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/9806/plus/0?saison=2007&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=

Wow, forgot about Kebe. You have no idea how much I wanted a midfield of Dyer Liam trotter Wellens Kebe playing behind a strike force of Maynard and Mackail-Smith Seem to remember being heavily Linked with all of them during Svens time here. A big transfer memory for me is seeing Sky Sports (when they were a decent football news source) reporting that we’d signed Dj Campbell and thinking we’d signed an absolutely worldie. How wrong I was.

Think it was because he had the same number before he left as St Ledger or someone like that
