I think the story is that Fergie has recommended Walsh but the board aren't convinced.

He's brilliant at unearthing a gem and spotting a bargain- that's not what United want or need at all. His record at Everton shows he's not so good at spotting top players.

Not a chance all the signings at Everton were his, you could see the managers and the board had their fingers all over several of them. Add in the managerial merry go round and a few duff signings he had no chance. He and Pearson seemed to have a symbiotic relationship.
