Ric Flair Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 It's a big game for us and it's the most excited i've been about a home game for a long while. Southampton have some great young players, most of them are out on loan though! I think we have a great chance of beating Southampton, they won't come here and sit back which will suit us as we can't handle teams who come here for a point. de vries is out as is Gudjonsson so there's a few areas that will be changed. Everything must go through Smith though if we are to beat Southampton, Smith is as goos as any player in this division and I hope he can outshine Walcott. Douglas Maybury McCarthy Gerrbrand Sheehan Sylla Williams Tiatto Smith Hume Elvis Subs: Dublin, Nissa, Henderson, Kisnorbo, Hamill
breadandcheese Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Should be a good game on Saturday, although I am not massively confident yet. I'd definitely play a 4-4-2. Not overly impressed with a 4-3-3 and it seems it didn't really work against Plymouth (although that might be owing to the weather). Anyway, team I think will play: Douglas - I prefer Henderson and would pick him over Douglas Maybury McCarthy Gerrbrand Johansson - I would probably play Sheehan as he's that bit quicker, which I think will prove helpful against Walcott Sylla Kisnorbo Williams Smith Dublin Hume Subs: Henderson, Hammond, Stearman, Tiatto, Hamill I think I would pick virtually the same team as I think Craig will play.

davieG Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Dublin Set To Return < Official Site Craig Levein has hinted that Dion Dublin could return to the fore when City take on Southampton at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday (3pm). Dublin led the Leicester front line in their impressive 1-0 Carling Cup win over Cardiff, but started on the bench in subsequent league encounters against Preston and Plymouth. Top scorer Mark de Vries moved back up top for those contests - the latest against Plymouth being abandoned at half-time due to a waterlogged pitch. Dublin, meanwhile, has spent the majority of the season to date at the other end of the pitch as a centre half. But de Vries will miss the Saints game through suspension, paving the way for the former England striker to regain his place in the City attack. Speaking at his pre-match press briefing, Levein said: "There is every chance that Dion will be involved. He came off the bench against Preston and made a difference to the team. We know that Mark is suspended so Dion could be involved." Levein will also be without midfielder Joey Gudjonsson who is also banned for the contest. He added: "Joey was due to serve his suspension at Plymouth, but the fact that Tuesday night's game was abandoned means that ban now carries over to Southampton. "The annoying thing about the booking system is if you get booked in a game that is abandoned then the booking still stands, but on the other hand it doesn't count towards one of your banned games if you are suspended." And on the injury front Levein revealed some positive news on Scottish midfielder Stephen Hughes. He said: "Stephen will have an injection in his ankle tonight (Thursday). It's nothing major, we just need to pinpoint where the discomfort is. The idea is that he gets the injection and then we hope to have him back in training at the start of next week."
brookfox Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Got to go with... Douglas Maybury McArthy Gerrbrand Nils (even though he's not the quickest!) Sylla Kisnorbo Williams Smith Dublin Hume Subs: Henderson, Steraman, Tiatto, Hammond, Hammill Got a good balance to it, plus it'll be my first glimpse of the much talked about Smith. I for one can't wait!!!
Mark Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 .......................Douglas Stearman McCarthy Gerrbrand Maybury Sylla ...... Tiatto ...... Williams .... Smith .................. Elvis Hume Subs: Dublin, Nissa, Henderson, Sheehan, Hamill Dublin will start though, it's a shame because he was effective as a sub coming on against Preston, just like De Vries was effective as a sub against Derby. Both are useful subs but i hate them starting games. I can't see Dublin starting against Southampton and doing much, he'll go on to play 90 minutes as well even though he'll be knackered after at most 70 minutes because Levein has to play with a big man, but on Saturday with no backup. PACE PLEASE.

Guest Gist Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Douglas Maybury Gerrbrand Mccarthy Johansson Sylla Williams Kisnorbo Smith Dublin Hume Subs: Henderson, Stearman, Hammill, Tiatto, Hammond Yeh id go with that it would be the most effective although like mr C said dublin would probably be better coming on as a sub so would start Hammond instead
Ash Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Douglas Maybury Dublin Johansson Stearman Sylla Williams Gudjonson Kisnorbo Hume De Vries
Scow Posted 3 November 2005 Posted 3 November 2005 Douglas Maybury - McCarthy - Gerrbrand - JohanssonSylla - Kisnorbo - Williams - SmithDublin - Hume Might as well keep the same back 4 which has kept two consecutive clean sheets. Although Williams has been cack, I'd bring him back in to the side instead of Tiatto - we'll have Kisnorbo mopping up behind.

Not as a preference but as the most likely line-up.

Ric Flair Posted 4 November 2005 Author Posted 4 November 2005 Douglas Maybury Dublin Johansson Stearman Sylla Williams Gudjonson Kisnorbo Hume De Vries I know everyone has their opinions but is that possibly the worst selection possible given the players available? Not only is Gudjonsson and de Vries suspended but also you've gone for Stearman at left back? no McCarthy or Gerrbrand who have kept 2 clean sheets in the last 2 games? Kisnorbo at left wing and no Ryan Smith anywhere to be seen? I wouldn't bother sending your CV in son!

dynamite foxes Posted 4 November 2005 Posted 4 November 2005 Ric You are the one who told me I had picked an awful team even when you changed one player! Douglas Maybury Gerrbrand McCarthy Sheehan Sylla Williams Kisnorbo Smith Hume Elvis Subs- Dublin, Johansson, Tiatto, Stearman, Henderson
dynamite foxes Posted 4 November 2005 Posted 4 November 2005 Well you'd do us no favours if you were the manager and we played that team. Awful. Douglas Stearman Paddy Nils Sheehan Hughes Williams Gudjonsson Tiatto Hume Elvis Subs: Gerrbrand, Kisnorbo, Henderson, Chambers, Hamill there you go my team that day was Douglas Stearman Paddy Nils Sheehan Sylla Hughes Williams Hamill Hume Elvis which was the team that had won at Watford. You seem to not be able to accept other peoples opinion.
