Manchester is split into multiple areas for drinking/socialising.

I am a big fan of the Northern Quarter - there are plenty of Craft Beer places around there. Its not too far from the Arndale centre. Can run off about five/six pubs in that area what are worth a visit. Few independent shops if that's you bag.

Fazenda is one of those Brazilian meat places which I can recommend.

Altrincham Market is a good afternoon out from the centre - little food stalls and a small crafts market. Can get to it by tram from centre.

Bundobust is a good mix of vegetarian asian food tapas and craft beer.

Cloudwater's brewery unit is worth a visit if you are a big craft beer geek.

Other areas are Deansgate - bit too in your face for me and Spinniningfields which is a bit pretentious in my view.

If your missus can stand it, National Football Museum is great.

Stayed in a hotel in Manchester called The Cows Hollow before and it was nice, cheap, a bit more boutique and it’s in the NQ - don’t usually stay over because it’s only 45 mins on the train.

Basically, Manchester is pretty massive so there’s loads of options. NQ is great for more casual dining and drinks, Deansgate is good for your more well known types of places, Spinningfields has some good bars. If you want some nice Tapas hit up Iberica in Spinningfields or El Gato Negro on Market Street (I think). There’s also Australasia in Spinningfields which is excellent as well. I’d try and go to 20 Stories as well if you can, class views but it isn’t cheap. If you want steak go to Hawksmoor, also Spinningfields I think, there’s also Grill on the Alley (I think it’s called that, it’s a Blackhouse but It’s not as good IMO)

You won’t struggle for Craft beer in NQ either.

Haven't been for years, but the Marble Arch was always a top place: multiple ales on tap, brew their own Marble beers & always used to have a wide range of continental bottled beers.

Also used to serve good food & has great decor.

5 minutes walk from Manchester city centre (maybe 15 mins from Piccadilly station).

I worked behind the bar there in the 90s - and ended up spending half my wages round the other side of the bar. :frusty:

Was going to mention the blue oyster bar, but you have that covered already. What are food options like at the BOB?

On 1st January 1994, I woke up to the New Year there. I was sitting asleep behind the bar, propped up against a box of crisps.

It used to have regular lock-ins then, staying open for as long as there was a decent number of people wanting to drink - usually until about 4am.

As bar staff, the deal was that you didn't get paid beyond midnight, but could help yourself to beer. lol

Cloudwater unit 9 on the Piccadilly trading estate is decent for craft beer. There’s loads in the Northern Quarter, and OL hatch on Oxford road is pretty quirky.

Would recommend Evuna in the NQ For Tapas, and the best steak I had was an Argentinian at Gauchos in the city centre. Fazenda is brilliant as well, so much meat.

Manchester is brilliant. One of my favourite places to visit.

I'd stay around Piccadilly. Northern Quarter and Deansgate have decent bars etc but some are pricey. But you'll get craft beer.

I've been Science & History museum, that was interesting, also been to the Lowery in Salford. Football museum is bigger now it's there and not in Preston, last went there a couple years back now.

You can get around easy. Good bus system, tram system and train system.
