We now go into the final 5 games of the season needing a good return to get champions league football. If you asked me at the half way stage if we'd be in this position, I would have laughed but here we are. Brendan has got a lot of praise this season and rightly so, but now he needs to prove himself and get the lads going for the part of the season where it counts. We are still in a good position but can't afford any more slip ups between now and the end of the season. United are coming at us like a steam train and Chelsea look like a good bet also. What I'd like to see is us have a go at teams as we need wins now rather than draws.

If I asked you at the start of the season if we'd be in the position you would probably have laughed then too!

Yes but would you be disappointed if we got Europa league football come the end of the season. I certainly would. Expectations can change during a season.

Looking forward to it to be honest. Win Lose or Draw this is a big moment in the history of many of these players and the club. The heat is on full blast. Hope we play United for all the marbles. The future is now. Can you feel it!

Not sure he needs to prove himself:

- 3rd in the table

-3rd best attack in the PL (Good chance of scoring more goals then the title wining side currently on 63, we got 68 in the title winning season)

- 2nd best defence in the PL (Good chance of conceding less goals then the title wining side currently conceded 32,  title winning season we conceded 36)

- League Record away win

- most consecutive wins for LCFC in PL

- 2nd high point total for LCFC in PL,

- on course for second best finish

I think it more a case of he needs to finish the job, rather then prove himself

must improve....lol

The acid test. Name of this thread took me back to school pissing about in science with a PH scale and a bit of litmus paper. Classic.

This sounds like the sort of stuff that Spurs fans console themselves with to mask their inability to actually win anything . BR really needs to build on Saturdays result and re-start our season .

He surely must win the tactical battle against Arteta and if we get too many more of the nervy,  safety- first selections and performances we’ve had lately he will deserve the criticism

Exactly this. No one is saying this season we haven't been great, or that Brendan Rodger's job is under pressure, but if he wants to be considered to be one of the best in the league he needs to get us over the line.

It wouldn't be a disaster for us not to get champions league but it would be a black mark against BR and this team from the excellent work they did earlier on this season.

I had us top 4 from the start of the season and I've had money on it from then. We've capitalised on the transition that four of the big six have gone through and we're still ahead but we need to get over the line. But I didn't expect Chelsea and United to be as good as they've been tbf, especially recently.

So if we finish 5th Rodgers hasn't proved himself and is a failure?

And every City manager other then Ranieri and O'Neill have been failures because they haven't won anything!

The name of this thread took me to the back of the workhouse in the early 90's.

No he isn't a failure if we finish 5th. It would just be a great disappointment and it would put a black mark against his name in terms of being considered a top top manager from standards he's set himself.

I don't think you can compare across eras, because our current owners have invested heavily into the club and with the training ground, possible stadium expansion and growing transfer budgets we should be looking to get into Europe for the next few years at least!

I’m not sure why you’ve quoted me and then imputed your own version of what I might have said (but didn’t)

we were competing deep in two cups and CL qualification was ours to give away and so if we end with nothing I don’t see why BR should escape criticism for any aspects of the campaign where he could have done better

We are 11th in net spend over the last 5 years and 13th this season and you think 5th would be a black mark against he's name?

We have finished 14th, 12th, 9th and 9th in the 4 out of our 5 season in the PL but 5th is seen as a black mark........

You quote me and then make comments about something in terms not used by me - but I’m not particularly bothered - have it your way

Like I said, if you're a top manager, like the media makes him out to be, then you don't blow a 14 point lead in half a season over United. You can't argue that the form second half of the season has been worrying. I'm a big fan of BR and I don't want him to go anywhere but he does need to reflect on what went wrong if we don't get CL football.

Net spend is a terrible statistic, considering we have sold Kante, Drinkwater, Mahrez and Maguire in that time. Our recruitment though has been fantastic but there's no doubt we've spent a decent amount.

To not win any money?

Far from it and its not about the money. I just think with how BR changed us and the way we were playing earlier this season, it would be a shame for us not to get there. I like everyone on here want to see Leicester do well but we do have to point out when things haven't gone as they should, even if it means expectations are high.
