The comparisons to Vardy is totally different... Lineker left to join the league Champions. You rekon any of our players would reject Liverpool/Man City now? Not a chance. Plus who the fvck would reject Barcelona. He won the golden boot and is one of the Countries greatest goalscorers. "Just a goal-hanger" such a playground term... a striker is supposed to score goals.

Also, as I mentioned, he got a consortium together to save the club. He backed £5m bid to save us ffs. If that doesn't fit your "legendary" status then I don't know what you have to do.

I love Vardy and in terms of contribution to the club I think he's our best ever, and I didn't have the pleasure of seeing Lineker, but if a player now moved from us to the league champions then onto Barca/Madrid/Bayern then I'd probably think.... wow.

Linekar is not worthy of sharing the same sentence with Vardy, either on or off the pitch, can`t abide the sanctimonious A**hole

Legend? Let's not forget that the former Leicester, Everton, Barcelona, Spurs and Grampus Eight player only spent 7 of his 16 playing years at City, and only the first 4 of his 80 England caps were gained at City. Much is made of his career bookings total of zero, but to me that suggests that unlike the great Jamie Vardy, he didn't get stuck in to help out the defence when needed. Essentially he was a goal-hanger. Also JV has remained loyal to City and not jumped ship, unlike GL did when the pound signs floated in front of his eyes. I not knocking Gary, just trying to put his playing career into perspective. He was at the same school as me, and apparently to toughen him up, he was given a diet of steak (and probably spinach). Goalkeeper Carl Jayes was also at our school in the early 1970s.

Same school as me too - City Boys'. Though I was older than him and don't remember him there. Carl Jayes was a near contemporary though. Remember that Orient cup game when I'd been telling all and sundry I was at school with him until he let in a doozy...then it was Carl who?

Alastair Campbell was there too. Well-known Labour spin-doctor and Burnley fan. And a bit of a div, even (especially) then.

Emile Heskey went there too, though well after my time.

Speaking personally, I disliked the place and couldn't wait to get out of there.

Maybe you've hit on the reason why both Alastair Campbell and I suffer from depression!

Maybe.

Judging from the people I know who went there - and my own experience - it didn't do us too many favours.

I found it pretty restrictive and hidebound. Ok if you were a middle-class kid into the sciences set for a life in the bourgeoisie, not much use for any one else.

I depised the bloody place.

Yeah;  he was there all right - same time as I was. Early 70s.  Didn't hear him on H & J talking about his depression.

Will say though, he used to depress the feck out of me...

lol "off the pitch" ... I don't think Vardy's previous off pitch are worth the discussion.

What a stupid opinion you have.

Hardly worthy of a response. I don't know how old you are but did you ever see him play for City? I mean, you can't even spell his name correctly ffs. He was a local legend, He helped us out financially when we were in danger of going bust. He regularly refers to his love and support for his old club. He often comes to Leicester games, or did until March. Is it because he is an anchor on the highest rated football show on British TV? Is it because he went to bigger clubs than us and back then Everton were bigger, like that or not. Who in their right mind would think "No, I wont go to Barca because my roots are in a non-descript east midlands city".

Explain why he is sanctimonious. And an A-hole.

It's definitely because of Lineker's political opinion lol I like how angry it makes people. Take someone like Shilton though who is completely the other way, right wing and backs the tories, and some people like that.

I don't understand the hike in pay for someone who is on radio pretty much exclusively and is mainly a radio presenter, and pretty poor at that. It can only be the beeb trying to equalise pay gap. Fair enough but why Zoe Ball? That said, Gary only does about 5 hours of BBC per week and is also handsomely paid (I imagine) by BT sports as well.

He’s payed shit loads more by every other company he works for.

This is why it makes me laugh, he could easily do without doing MOTD at all, his BT contract alone is reportedly triple the amount. Yet because the BBC have to print his earnings that’s what gets the scrutiny, it’s pretty funny really.

Lineker at least says some things that are thought-provoking and interesting. Whether you agree with them or not.

Don't think I've ever heard Zoe Ball say anything that wasn't orthodox opinion, received wisdom, platitude,  cliché or jargon. Kind of fits the times we live in I suppose.

I see you haven't bothered to back up your remarks... or counter argue what I said... maybe you're not so great, Gordon.
