Marti has to dropped him, in each of our 3 losses this season Thomas has made a mistake in the first 5 minutes that's resulted in a goal.

Today it would have been 2 goals if it wasn't for Jacob.

Been screaming at him for years to pass it forwards. The multiple throw-ins he gave away from simple passes today tells me why he didn't try before.

This isn't me being reactionary after a poor loss: he gave away the goal today but we would have lost regardless.

As an academy graduate I want him to succeed but he's clearly already hit his ceiling and it's not high enough.

A simple ball over the top. He's beaten on positioning,  pace and strength on numerous occasions

Bit harsh on the pass, it's pretty much perfect. We dont play passes as good as that into our forwards any more.

Yes, it's a lovely pass, but it's still a ball over the top. The ball hasn't just been turned over, he should be aware of his attacker's position

Oh rubbish, his position is awful, makes a half hearted attempt to get back in position, fumbled and then seemingly doesn't really care afterwards. He is the epitome of diabolical. Truly woeful player and I've said this for years. I like the bloke but he's just not good enough.

I'm struggling to come up with a worse LB I've seen since the mid 90s.  Can anyone suggest someone?

Mid-90s was Whitlow, wasn't it? Way better than Thomas. I'd have to go back to Tony Spearing, personally. And even that one is very debatable.

Luke has a good game in him here and there, and I don't doubt that he tries his heart out (which is more than you could say for some), but he looks like a lower-league player to me. No pace, no strength, no attacking threat - that tends to mean you don't get to play in the top two divisions.

Regarding that point, I know people keep saying how crap the Championship is, but I have clocked that some of the same posters thought we were way too good for this league. And we clearly aren't, so people are either underestimating the second tier or buying into the idea that price tags are a fair indicator of quality. In fairness to Cifuentes (as underwhelmed as I am by him) I don't think he can take the blame for the fact that our options at LB / CF and, in reserve, at RB, CB and CM, are below Championship level. In spite of what we paid for some of them.

I saw Marti state that younger players like Evans and Aluko need to learn to do the right things with the reserves before they're thrown in at the deep end. I see where he's coming from, but when the first choices are so consistently failing to do the right things, you have to wonder whether he's getting something wrong.

Did i defend Thomas? I'm just saying the pass was very good.

Fair enough, just came across as an excuse for Thomas.

He tries but needs to play at a level where you can get away with mistakes , league 1 ?

No.

Conference or league two mid table at best

When he signed his new contract his wages more than doubled btw. £15k per week up to £30k plus bonuses. 4 years…

I missed this, didn't realise we had dished out a 4 yr contract, my god no other club would make such a mistake...

This is maybe his 3rd goal conceding mistake in the past few games. It's definitely time to swap him out. Take him out the squad for a few games, start Aluko.

Take him out and play the academy U 22 LB.

Ryan McGivern or Ryan Bertrand.
