Cricinfo seem to think the game will be done and dusted today, even with a chance of rain and more time to play with tomorrow.

8 wickets on a batting friendly pitch is still a difficult task.

Agree with that, although l do like Carse, he will do well in Oz. We have bowled & caught very poorly in this Test. It will probably cost us the game.

Another issue we have is we don't have a world class spinner to bowl over after over. I guess we have too many seamer friendly county tracks to help them.

We were so fortunate to have Jimmy for so long (Broad too). Both kept themselves fit & hungry. I doubt England will see their like ever again.

I actually think they've bowled brilliantly- just cant catch. I actually think this test has been useful- Tongue and Atkinson definitely test match level. I think they'd banked on Atkinson being fitter and Wood is a massive loss.

If we got to Australia with Archer, Wood, Carse, Tongue, Atkinson and Stokes all fit we've got every chance. India have rotated their seamers better than us this summer. I don't get Overton at all - he's completely average, Potts surely has to be ahead of him.

And as for the spinners I actually don't know how many there are aside from Lyon - Jadeja has looked average this summer. Bashir actually comes out of the summer with a lot of credit.

That's one hell of a pacy attack, especially the first 3 that can make the ball do extraordinary things.

Shastri made a good point. Sometimes he's not in to take wickets but just to bring an element of control to an innings if possible. Slow things down.

It's been a bonus that Sundar has been able to take wickets as a secondary spinner.

It's felt like quite an even surface in terms of batting/bowling.

Your tail wagged for 100-130 runs yesterday because our bowlers were absolutely ****ed. We need to make sure we see off Siraj, Krishna and Deep and go after Jadeja and Washington.

If we give your pacers early wickets then we'll lose because your bowlers will remain fit and firing. This morning is very key. We don't need to socre quickly because there is so much time left in the game. Play it smart and tire your bowlers out has to be the aim.

That'll be it I think. Was so important that Duckett stayed in.

Unfortunately fielding has cost us in this one.

That's that then.

Root, Brook, Smith still to bat.

Not over yet!

We're just being a bit FT about it. If I'm honest I still believe!

Can't wait for Brook aiming to slog every ball. Despite 5 sessions of cricket still to play.

At least one of those needs to be there at the end.

Brook can do circumspect - he just doesn't do it often. Hopefully he figures now is one of those times.

Pope has some serious fourth innings issues if his numbers are any judge.

Would be a good time to exorcise a demon or two there.

Or not. Damn it.

Great nip-back delivery, but the sheer number of times Pope gets out lbw with his head falling over is very poor for a top order bat. Can see him getting annihilated by Cummins and Hazlewood in the winter.

That should be that for Ollie Pope, not good enough for England.

Bethell has a huge chance today to determine who starts at Perth i think.
