Agreed. I think it is clear that Rodgers was mostly annoyed with the rescheduling of games so early on (Everton and Spurs in January). He is comfortable playing the scheduled games with who we have available and this game will be on unless there is a dramatic turn of events in ours or their squad.

Yes I'm inclined to think that as well.

Also at some level the club will know that too many postponements now will just screw us over in the long-run.

I also think the current fad for multiple postponements won't last into February. It just can't if we're going to get the season done, plus several clubs (including us) will have European fixtures to think about too.

The AFCON lads is a weird angle to shoot at.

1) AFCON went from a planned 2021 Summer tournament to 2022 Winter. So the expectation was we’d have that player availablity ten months ago which you’d consider when it comes to signing players/extending contracts.

2) The situation which arised at Liverpool the week before is in part caused by their own players being unavailable with AFCON and any game this month will have the same implication.

3) There are leagues in the professional football pyramid what have a rule saying 3 or more pros being selected internationally is a valid call off reason

Yeah by all means moan at the loophole where the PL put ‘injuries’ in the rule. But the AFCON thing has been a deciding factor for other clubs and will continue doing so for the rest of this month

And surely only applicable if we request all four league games to be postponed which I doubt we'll do or will be granted?

I didn't realise so many people were desperate to watch Everton v Leicester in the media.

What the hell is wrong with these people? We have 17 players unavailable, only 3 of them are at the AFCON (not even including Mendy as we can't use him anyway).

Although I think Mendy would be available since it's January and a 25-man squad list isn't due until the window closes.

Oh, shall we take a look at what Rafa Benitez said when he requested the Burnley match to be postponed?

On Thursday, after the original application to postpone the match at Turf Moor had been rejected, Everton boss Rafael Benitez said he was "really surprised" that it was going ahead.

He explained that he had been left with just nine senior outfield players and three goalkeepers to choose from because of a Covid-19 outbreak.

"The problem is we have nine outfield players available plus three keepers and after [that] we have to bring in five young players who are not even 21 years old," added the Spaniard.

The match was eventually called off due to "further injuries".

Some people might say there's not a huge difference.

He actually had 15 outfield players fit and available who have played first team league football this season, but he didn't consider them good enough to count as players.  It was after further "injuries" (plural) overnight on 23rd December that they got the game called off.  They were OK with the covid cases, it was specifically new "injuries" that pushed them over the edge.

so, has the game been postponed?

No I'm at the ground now. Just waiting for the players to come out. Very odd though as I'm the only person here and there are no lights on.

We're Leicester City, we'll play in the dark.

Especially given the fact the new date was rearranged on Dec. 31. Everton even asked for Boxing Day to be rearranged. Now is a stupid time to be planning family activities around football involving hotels/flights.

Its almost as if they just want the attention more than anything. Like those fat blokes who used to ring up Radio Leicester complaining how far they've travelled to see us lose again. Yeah you knew before you travelled to Plymouth that we were lining up with Elvis Hammond pal.
