Team GB women curling team through to the semi finals! Took a remarkable confluence of results, but they got there. Hopefully they can take advantage of the chance they've been given.

Men's curling semi-final, transatlantic derby.

The Americans take two in the second end.

The Team GB response? Three. Delivered as cold as the ice they're playing on.

3-2 GB after three ends, game on.

GB have been metronomic, rolling them in with clinical precision, making no errors and waiting for errors from the US. Come the 9th end, they finally draw a couple.

6-4 to GB going into the final end.

Mouat has brought together one heck of a team. Their consistency as @leicsmacpointed out is no accident; Mouat is a brilliant student of the game, and he and his team combine athleticism with analytics very well.

Even the way they throw their stones with more rotation, which they’ve found makes their shots easier to control with sweeping, just shows how much Mouat thinks about everything from the highest level of curling concepts to the most minute of margins.

Top-level curlers have obsessed about sweeping over the past 20 years, really changing how that’s done, but they focused mostly on brush head materials, getting stronger over the broom, directional sweeping, one sweeper vs two… Mouat seems to have really figured out how rotation on the stone factors in to sweeping before his rivals and now they’re trying to catch up. But nobody else will really want to change the way they throw their stones midway through the season!

Plus, he might be the only person under 35 years old named Bruce, so credit to him 😆

I’m disappointed to see Team Shuster lose after fading in the last ends; I have no problem with their strategy to keep hammer, they either just faded or couldn’t quite adjust to the changing ice. But seeing a team play as well as Mouat’s did is always a delight.

I think Mouat vs Edin could be an all time great final.

£27M is a lot of money for little return.

Otherwise known as 'doing a Slimani'.

I'd have to do some number crunching, but my initial thoughts is that it's far from the worst spending-to-medal ratio out there. Other places likely spend a lot more on winter sport infrastructure.

Not a good start for the GB women in their curling semi-final against Sweden, 4-0 down after the first end.

That's like being three down after 10 minutes of football - not insurmountable but you're going to lose far more than you win.
