My days of ‘fast’ running are a bit behind me (2:47 marathon etc) - any ultra runners on here? I’m running Wildhorse 200 in a few weeks and have full Dragons Back in September. Will be collecting my sixth star in NY in November though.

I’d love to do the Dragons Back!

I’ve dabbled very much at entry level with a 32 miler (first half of London to Brighton), Manchester to Liverpool (50 miles) and have The Lap (47 miles) and Race to the Stones (full 100K) for next year.

My dream is to complete a 100 miler but I’m not sure that this 47 year old mum could do it! I know age isn’t a barrier however the head isn’t the best.

Mona Fartlek for me has been massive.

Yeah great session - Short one but tough when you don't get 'proper' recoveries between the efforts.

Looks like it's going to get unbearably hot for running Friday onwards for a few days, I'll be out at Dawn's crack TYVM !

Up to 21 degrees before 9 AM on Monday apparently. Bit warm!

I ran in Italy the other summer and it was 29 degrees at parkrun. It was awful but they had Prosecco at the finish so it balanced itself out!

Felt a bit ropey yesterday evening but had a 6 mile easy run planned. Gave it a go but had to stop on 5 miles as it felt way harder than it should’ve done, although wasn’t sure if it was the warm weather doing it.

Felt grim and uncomfortable all night and woke up to this, which probably doesn’t mean much to non Garmin users but it’s not good -

Few days off needed I think.

Ouch - Those stress levels whilst sleeping are not ideal!

I guess your HRV tanked as well?

I'm a geek for the Garmin data aswell...can't help it! lol

Yeah properly noticeably hotter this morning for the early one, absolutely dripping by the time I got back to Chez Miquel

Just nice at 6 AM this morning...don't fancy it any warmer!

Got a hard effort planned at Parkrun tomorrow morning...not going to be fun.

Yeah, HRV was pretty much cut in half. It looks as though I’ve had 10 pints lol. Feels that way too!

I don’t pay that much attention to the Garmin data, although it’s definitely lead to me significantly cutting down on booze because my sleep score is horrific every time.

The one thing that did make me laugh though, was a KM into my ultra. Obviously Garmin flashes up with how ready you are for the run a KM in and sometimes it’s fair and I panic a bit, and others I laugh and ignore it… this literally gave me the worst readiness score I’ve ever had as I’ve got another 51km to run.

Mine was pretty much like “all the best buddy, enjoy yourself” then a few days after was plus 7 which is also the best it’s ever been. So weird.

Just done a light 7km, usually do more but think would be suicidal at this time of day and temperature. Might go again tonight late if I have time.

Running at my normal/average pace for a light one at about 4:50-5:00per km and I'm absolutely dripping in sweat and my heart rate kept spiking like **** 🤣

Absolutely hate it when it's like this here, really affects running for me

Same. If I wake up and feel like shit, I’ll look at the sleep / stress data to confirm.

Booze is a big one like you say, absolutely tanks all the scores.

Do you use a HR strap? I think the performance thing on Garmin uses HR readings and HRV. I’ve found HR readings during runs are garbage from the watch itself. I’ve done intervals in which my heart rate has gone up and down too fast for the watch to even register it.

Yeah I’ve got the chest strap, I was probably shitting myself at the start which would explain it.

Plus, a KM in the first climb of 700 metres started.

Just been out for a plod of a 5k but floored it for the last half a kilometre, running my quickest ever 400m apparently. Pretty much on the pace of running 5k in 18:45, how are people maintaining that.

This heatwave is starting to look like it could last a pretty long while...

Regretting signing up for a half on 7th June.
