I used to go to uni where they had the North West 200, absolute respect for these days for the speeds they do on working roads.

Unfortunately its highly addictive for the riders, there's an active rider who's uncle, dad and brother have all died in seperate racing incidents.

Northern Ireland rider Davy Morgan has been killed in a crash during the Supersport race at the Isle of Man TT.

The County Down rider crashed at the 27th Milestone on the third and final lap of Monday morning's event.

Morgan, 52, is the third competitor to to lose his life at this year's TT.

The riders are fully aware of the dangers of road racing - most of them know no fear. John McGuiness was recently quoted as saying, he's sooner go down Bray Hill in his underpants than go to the dentist.

“The reason I do it is because if you do it wrong, it will kill you. If you think it’s too dangerous then go home and cut your lawn and leave us to it.”- Guy Martin

Road racing is a wonderful spectacle. From the outside looking in the risks seem staggering. No criticism intended for the riders or their teams and supporters. They remind me of test pilots or even fighter pilots

If 5 horses died at the grand national their would be uproar. 5 needless deaths imo.

265 deaths in 101 race meetings. I'm amazed it's not been banned already.

It reminds me of Formula 1 pre-mind-70's when it wasn't at all unusual to have at least a couple of drivers die per season.

I don't suppose there's a way of making the whole thing safer without removing something critical from the sport as a whole, though.

I used to live there. Driving the course roads at normal speed really made you wonder how & why they did the NW200 :o

For people that know more about motorcycle racing please could I ask the following. Riding at high speed does the age of a competitor become a factor. I'm sure experience is a vital quality but do reactions slow to the extent it becomes more dangerous. For example I would think most fighter pilots are fairly young. Not trying to question anyone's ability but pressure will no doubt build on what is a wonderful sport for many
