I’m going to go out on a limb here and say we definitely are getting relegated. So, what’s the starting line-up on the season opener? I think the defence stays pretty much the same but I think they’ll be lots of changes up top

Iverson

Schmeichel ( returns)

Ricardo

Souttar

Faes

Kristiansen

Praet

KDH…( he will stay)

Barnes

Amartey ( can’t get rid,moves upfield)

Baybrooke

Iheanacho/Daka

Vardy…( he will stay)

There you are..

Surely Vardy would be in his element at Championship level? (Some twat signed him for another season!)

No. Could it be any clearer that he is completely done as a player?

I definitely can’t see us bouncing straight back up

I can see us going on a second tour of the third tier.

I can't fcking believe we didn't sell Soumare when we had the chance.

I can’t believe we haven’t pushed him out of a coach at some random services with his passport, a sandwich, and £50.

I think the big question here will be the amount of money we spend to get back up.

There’s some great players in the Championship who will jump at the chance of coming to Leicester, with the facilities etc. Players like Piroe, Gykoeres. Gykoeres is just down the road at Coventry too.

Players like Alves and Braybrook would be good squad players, but ultimately they won’t get you promoted. They’re too raw and inexperienced. To get out the Championship you need experience, to be solid at the back, and to ultimately score goals. KDH would be perfect for the division, unsure on Hamza personally but i’d prefer Mendy playing instead.

For me Iversen is great as a number one, Faes and Kristiansen were bought and had relegation clauses put in their contracts, meaning they will get a wage reduction when we go down. That means the club bought them with one eye on the Championship, meaning they’re unlikely to be sold unless someone comes in with a big bid. Justin in the championship would pull up trees, and we could even turn towards players like Tavernier at Rangers to help push the club in the right direction.

Upfront I think Daka will stay, the lure of playing under Marsch again and a season in the Championship banging them in would be fantastic for him. I just worry about the wingers. The best Championship strikes are the quickest, so I’ve got no doubt he’d score 20+ goals.

Midfield wise, you can see the majority of the squad leaving. But you might get left with one or two like Ndidi as no one else might want him. What I feel disappointing is that the club’s hierarchy have allowed the players to run their contracts down, with millions of pounds of assets leaving the club for nothing. It’s not just about wages and reducing the wage bill, its about transfer fees.

It’s a big overhaul that’s needed, but it must begin with selling players that are on huge wages.

Do we know this as fact?

And assuming it is correct, these clauses work both ways. The player would only agree to a reduction clause if a leaving transfer fee was inserted too

The only positive here is that some of the better players from our academy should get a chance. Nelson, Braybrooke and Alves particularly.

Iversen

JJ

Souttar

New CB

Kristiansen

Ndidi

New CM

KDH

New RW

Daka

Barnes/New LW

Subs: Smithies, Faes, Braybrooke, New ST, Vardy, Ricardo, New CM, New LW/RW, New DM

Squad: Nelson, Albrighton, Thomas, Alves

Sell:

Maddison (£40-£50m?)

Iheanacho (£15m?)

Choudhury (£6m if Watford take option, keep if not)

Soumare (beg Monaco for whatever we can get)

Castagne (£12m?)

Vestergaard (free to a good, or not so good home)

Ward (whatever we can get, loan if not)

Barnes (think he’d stay, but £30-35m?)

Think we’ll need to sign about 10-12 new players. Big summer ahead if we do go down. Although I still believe.

Yeah, it was mentioned by journalists at the time when they signed. I’m not too sure about the leaving transfer fee/trigger to accept a bid.

From what I’ve seen from Faes and Kristiansen also, I don’t think they are Premier League level.

That's what I would have thought, no player is going to take that risk are they unless the reduction is minimal

Accepting that we are nailed on for relegation the scary thing for me is the number of players not out of contract but on huge wages.  FFP is actually implemented in the EFL, yes we have the parachute money but that is needed to pay off the loans that were secured on PL payments.   Just one example:  £5m wages a year for Soumare until 2026 is crippling and no way anyone is going to offer him a deal like that.  Our only chance is sending him on loan where we pay 70% of his wages.

Basically think the defence will be fairly obvious, and assuming castagne and Ricardo leave we’d probably just want two need fullbacks maybe get Louis Patris from Leuven. Ronnie Edwards and maybe Cashin as CB signings if evans and amartey and vestergaard go

midfield needs completely fixing bar KDH so I’d be looking for Hamer from Cov, Matt o’riley from Celtic or Hatate. Piroe to replace Maddison.

wingers assuming we don’t sign tete and sell Barnes and probably offload Albright on, we’re gonna need someone prolific like Tresor which I know might be too ambitious. So perhaps we go back in for Kent who’d be perfect at this level and Amad diallo on loan.

strikers for various reasons like wage/ age / form related needs completely changing. No room for sentiment we probably need to let Vardy go, iheanacho whilst we can still get money. I’d assume Daka would stay under Jesse. So Gyokeres would be a good signing with only a year left on his contract.

so obviously yeah all fantasy scenarios, who knows what’ll happen. But I’d set up something like this:

                              Iversen

           Patris Souttar Edwards VK

                     KDH Hamer O’riley

               Kent Gyokeres Tresor
