Love this. At my local grocery store in Connecticut there’s three animated milk cartons that sing WYS if you hit a button on the wall. It has become a ritual that my son taps it and we stand and watch. It’s not only a great song but a nice mantra to live by.

Great. You've got to upload that.

reading about the history of football in Dundee

Your history is probably going a bit further back than this, but I wonder if it mentions the dire provision of ladies' loos in the 90's at Dens, or more recently, that the catering in the away end food retailer (ie the shed on the terrace) at Tannadice was utterly crap and the cheeky gits sold bovril that was barely lukewarm.

Anyway, threadjack over, get Jersey Budd his due reward  :scarf:

Food retailer? You were lucky.  We used to dream of having a food retailer.

You'll like this one from 1931 I just came across:

Oh joy!

I'm in Starbucks in Sapporo at 9am (1am UK time) reading about the history of football in Dundee (long story). Starbucks seem to change the music every month. Now it's September they've changed to a fine selection of old classics.  They just played a wonderful song called 'I Know A Little About A Lot of Things' that I'd never heard before. It was was so good I stopped reading about Dundee and tried to find out more about it. It's a Peggy Lee track and when I get home it'll be on heavy rotation.

Straight after that came When You're Smiling - oh joy! It's a version from the 1950s by the sounds of it, with a fine breakdown section near the end with just handclaps backing the vocal.  Not sure who the artist is.

It's great to be reminded of the old place. I do miss it. Best moment was a few years back in the remotest corner of Hokkaido when I ws relaxing in a lakeside hot spring bath and - shock - another Westerner appears.  We got chatting of course and it turns out he's from Leicester. Not only that, he used to go to the same pub as me - the Pump and Tap in the West End.

Now they're playing another great track I've never heard that seems to be called 'I'm the one they call the seventh son'.  Ah - it's a Willie Dixon song.  Should be Sep Smith's theme song.

There's a very long list of versions of When You're Smiling here, many with audio:

I did have a flick through but didn't find one matching your description but may have missed it.

Some of them don't know the second verse lol

Yeah but TBF many of our lot mumble that part too! They ought to print the words on the bloody clappers!

The players love it though, Coady heard playing during his interview and moaned that they had been waiting to hear it and now they play it when they’re off the pitch. Belt it out Saturday people.

I’d back Piper’s call to get Jersey down there singing it live, he could do it while they set the stage up for the presentation. :scarf:

He doesn't make a penny out of the club playing it. Be a nice touch if they recompensed him to be there on Saturday.

Do you know of any other owners who interact with players and fans as much as Top does? We're lucky to have him.

The owner interacting with the players is meaningless if you keep buying crap ones on long contracts.

When it was Vichai tweaking Riyad’s ears because he’d told him he was staying for another year then fair enough.

When it’s Top walking round the pitch at Preston celebrating winning a league we should never have been in, it’s not the same thing.
