The Occasional 2023-24 Math Thread

@lnkstern some phenomenal maths here mate. 👏

Many doubted the 93, 4 teams will get 100!

93 proved to be the magic number and we’re going up!

Like all the financial adverts -- "Past performance is no guarantee of future results."  But, often there isn't much else to go on!

I am now quite curious what points the 3rd-place team ends up on.  Might even end up being 93... :o

As of today (Sunday, 21 Apr 24), the top four Championship teams have all played 43 matches.  After a couple of disappointing losses, Leicester won their most recent.

Status:  91 of 93 points required for automatic promotion.

Current points rate is 2.12/match.  0.33 points/match required for the rest of the season (2 points from 3 matches).

We are in first place and have a 4-point gap over third place (Leeds).

We have 97.8% of the required points for automatic promotion after 93.5% of the season.

P.S.  I acknowledge 93 points may not be sufficient.  We shall see.  I am not changing the target point total until it is demonstrably incorrect.

To be fair it was about spot on.

It is still possible for Leeds and/or Ipswich to end up with 93 points and still not get one of the automatic promotion slots.  If that happens, the new points target for the autos will be 94.

A win on Saturday will make Blackburn the 13th team we have done the double over this season, could this be a record?

Certainly more than we managed 10 years ago which was 10 if I've calculated it right.

Obviously the most possible with 32 wins is 16 and we'll be only 1 short of the all time wins record across all 4 leagues but, I would imagine unusually, we've failed to beat 4 teams at all.
