Ok. Not sure I'm on right board, not started many topics. Opinions on Pep possibly retiring after next year?

To me he'll always be remembered as a manager who was at 3 great clubs, with great players and lots of money that equalled winning many trophies.

If he wants to go down as one of the best of all time, he needs to go to a team like Tottenham that have a mixture of average, decent and great players with the budget that doesn't really allow for 70m+ players unless they sell. Show he can do it without all of the help

But he's had to compete against other elite managers with similar or bigger budgets and still won. So it's not like he's had it easy per default.

Disagree, disagree, strongly agree.

There's no way most managers would win the league with Man city, Man Utd and Chelsea have spaffed more money than them and are horrendous.

We've seen first hand how truly diabolical a level of football the championship really is, with little to no tactical awareness or competent teams. You don't need a great manager just a great motivator to take someone out of that league. Ipswich will come straight back down next season, just like Luton, because everyone will work McKenna out within a few days and he is nowhere near good enough to combat that.

Yes, Thomas Frank for three seasons and Irioala this season have been incredible. Would say the same for Gary o Neill at Wolves.

Why have a dig at McKenna? By all accounts, achieving what he has at Ipswich is extraordinary.

I have joked consistently about their luck this year, but behind that assessment is easily the hardest working team in the league with the best balance and above average quality.

It's not really fair to suggest he'll be out of his depth in the PL, especially when he'll have the lowest budget in the league and be competing with us, Leeds/Soton, Everton, Forest etc who will have spunked million upon millions on players for several years.

Luton performing the best out of the three promoted sides was not on the cards either.

If its easy to dominate with MCFC, Bayern and Barcelona then why hasn't other managers done it. Why didn't Pellegrini or Mancini win the treble or 4 in a row? Why didn't they get 100 points?

Pep is an elite coach and one of the greatest of all time. He's revolutionised football and he's got every team from the PL to Serie C copying his methods.

People talk about money he's spent but Chelsea and Man Utd have also spent billions. If Pep took charge of United in 2016 they'd be winning multiple titles by now.

Pep is one of the GOATS.

Can't argue with this. Yeah he's had the resources but so have several other managers and not delivered.

Not having a dig at McKenna at all, but I strongly dispute he's got 'strong managerial talent', and to be even in the same post as Pep and Thomas Frank is punchy.

What he has achieved at Ipswich is extraordinary but I do not think he's a great manager. Watching the championship this season has been an eye-opener in how bad football at this level really is. Everyone has one way of playing and no plan B (including us), no physical ability, just Warnock type 'gerrintoem' abilities to razz up a team and make them care a bit. Teams in the PL will work him out, he'll have no response and Ipswich will go down. That's not saying he's a bad manager, but he's not elite (yet).

Luton performing best out of the 3 is just like me performing best in our group of 4 men when Naomi Campbell was on our table at Mahiki in 2012. End result is failure. At least Luton went down tbf, unlike any of us that night

At Barcelona the only team with similar resources was Real Madrid, at Bayern Munich there was no real competition during his short stint and at Man City he was given a lot more time than other managers. It's like Playing fifa, give yourself several seasons with what is pretty much unlimited money and you'll win the league.

I'm not debating he's a great manager but compared to those who have won things with less money and not having a full team of world class players is a big difference.

But but but ... isn't Rodgers an elite coach too?

Hear he's going to Notts County.

He’s coming to the Poppies first. He is quoted as saying that the Southern League Premier Division Central provides managers with the toughest challenge they’ll ever face and fancies putting himself up to the task. The fact that I’ve seen him in our One Stop buying a discounted Pot Noodle just strengthens the rumour.

Given it seems likely that the 115 charges against Man City may have come before a tribunal, it would seem unlikely  that Man City would not be docked a huge number of points - or sufficient to be relegated - motivation may be lacking!

Having said that, he is a supremely good manager and has demonstrated this in three different countries over more than a decade. One of the greatest managers of all time. (And if Foden is now at his peak in time for Euros, we may be grateful!)
