I did the Keswick to Barrow 40 miler. Had brilliant views (until you get to Barrow).

Was a great event, as although bloody difficult, it is more accessible than some other organised events.

Has anyone else done the Yorkshire 3 peaks at all?

just traversed the route with a small group of friends on Wednesday and we managed a bit of running and walking combo and although not a great time completed it in 7hrs 46mins (moving time 6hrs and 22mins) - great views on each mountain

we chose to go up Pen-y-ghent (694m) first then Whernside (736m) and lastly Ingleborough (724m)

Cant recommend it enough. Much easier than George Fishers Tea Round in Cumbria but still a damn difficult challenging but rewarding route

Thats a quick time.

It took me much longer....

Cheers bud, I felt I held back the other 3 doing it with me as certainly I was slower up Whernside and Ingleborough and struggling mentally at those points but managed to get my legs going again down towards the finish and felt quite strong at the end

We parked near ribblehead viaduct and did whernside, Ingleborough and then Penyghent. Took us about 10 hours. We were knackered for last 4 miles

Yeah we've done it as part of training for the main three peaks. We were over 11 hours which included two stops which combined around an hour in total.

Yorkshire peaks was harder than the national three peaks in my mind as you just have that long walk between two of the peaks that was just mind numbing. Seeing it in the distance and never getting any closer was horrid.

I did it years ago. Cannot remember how long we took but I'm guessing it was 9 hours or so, we certainly didn't rush.

What sticks in my mind was staying in a youth hostel the night before and getting literally not a second's kip, which is why I never went to one ever again, and a sheep carcass on one of the peaks being in my top three worst smells ever

And the other two?

I should've known someone would ask.

I would say the bag of carrots that my then lodger pulled down from a high shelf only to dislodge what can only be described as putrid ectoplasm from a vegetable that had gone off in a spectacular new way. Something had not smelled good for a few weeks and when its source was discovered it went from 'do you think something smells a bit off in here' to a panicked dash out of the back door and a lot of retching within about 5 seconds.

The other was the room you had to go through to get to the bins at the pork pie factory where I did a few shifts as a student many moons ago. I don't know what caused it, but it was like nothing else I've smelled and if you didn't hold your breath I think there was a genuine risk of being overwhelmed by it

I’ve done it a couple of times. Found it much tougher than the national as you get a good rest between peaks with that. That’s a good time though as it took us over 11. One of them did involve me getting stuck in a bog up to my waist with my friends in a line trying to pull me out like in that kids story with the turnip lol

The second time I did it it was well signposted so we followed that rather than mapping it ourselves.

Did this a few years ago, nice walk and I can’t remember which way round I did it but the stretch between the first and second was a looong walk.

Think I did it in 9 hours, ended up running back from the last one to do that though. Ended up nodding off in my dinner that night lol

Nice one Col

i think the official route is between 24-25 miles but yes that's the right ball park

I did it in a similar time, around 7 and a half hours. Did most of my jogging on the long straight after Pen-y-ghent. So I can pace myself on the steeper bits.

We did it for Yorkshire Cancer Research through work.

Nice one bud, great when you do challenges like this for charity - I really do applaud 👏 that sort of thing

I do it twice a year at my own leisure, once in late spring, one in late autumn/winter. much prefer it when there's snow up there.

What about the Three Peaks though?

Also, how do you get snow up there?
