Is anyone thinking of going at all?

Ive had a bit of a change of circumstances and am thinking about heading out for the first test.

I’m no longer in the Barmy Army (though could rejoin I guess) but how easy are tickets to come by for Ashes (a) via other means?

Any Ashes away info or experiences would be appreciated

Sorry, going to be no help to the actual questions but this is bucket list stuff. You thinking a particular part of the tour? MCG has to be the one.

Although can see us losing 5-0 on this tour lol

It’s bucket list stuff for me too

My mates out in Sydney seeing his dad and Oasis in early November, so we’re looking at Perth in the latter parts of the month.

I went to Aus in December/January, best thing I've ever done, brilliant place, would do it all again in a heartbeat.

I've been convincing Mum and Dad to go as they're now getting to the "now or never" age, slightly bitter they've gone for now option and will be trying to get tickets at the Ashes this winter!

Parents 1, me 0.

Completely irrelevant but the away tour I'll do is West Indies

Never going to turn that down if I ever get the chance, but do hate how the grounds/islands seem to have Anglicised their offering in recent years. Surely the best part of going there is for the local atmosphere and culture?

Does that even apply to Trinidad?

Btw the best stories I’ve heard about the Aussie grounds is how the MCG and SCG used to have zero boyb rules. 😂😂😂

Went to Adelaide back in 2010. Was absolutely brilliant.

Pietersen scored 277. Adelaide was amazing on the grass bank back then and freedom to move around the ground.

I got tickets the day before when leaving Melbourne to drive to Adelaide as I had in my mind it wasn't in Adelaide until the following test.

Would love to go back and do it properly

What did you like so much about it?

How come? I have heard the Caribbean is basically a day out in Reading. Loads of overweight middle-class English people getting hammered and acting colonially.

I have done Boxing Day MCG and that was great, there is a distinct anti-English atmosphere which is incredible. Was actually in Sydney when the test was being played but didn't bother trying for tickets. Wouldn't bother with any other stadiums in Aus.

Yes I have heard this too. A Caribbean holiday seems to be fine if you are:

A) Over 65

B) Any age but very boring and lack a sense of adventure

I am a married man GF. Best chance of sitting on a grass bank while the other half suns it around a pool. I suppose really any test match could do to be fair.

That's the best part of cricket. You get proper holidays in summer time like India, Australia, NZ, Sri Lanka, SA etc etc. Way better sell than 'fancy an industrial town in Denmark on a Thursday night in February?'

Too raw that Groby. How I long for a day in the snow crowding out a hotel bar drinking cocktails in Denmark's most boring place

Had crossed wires with my mate last night. Thought he’d already committed to Perth flights, but he hasn’t. He hasn’t committed to anything yet.

Now sounds like we’re looking at a week in Sydney at his Dads followed by a week in Brisbane for the second test.

Off round his house shortly to discuss

Queens Park Oval in Trinidad is basically the same as what it was 30 years ago. Antigua, Barbados and Guyana have all properly either changed or massively redeveloped their grounds. Sabina park is kinda the same but the atmosphere is dead by all accounts. So trini is the best.

Absolute bucket list stuff, hope you get round to it.

Did you used to travel with the BA? Just had a look at some of their prices.

I do love the Caribbean but England only ever play on the most touristy islands now - Barbados, St Lucia, Antigua - and it always sounds like Sweet Caroline etc being blasted out instead of soca, reggae etc. And people wonder why the locals ain't arsed.

Feel for the hardcore England fans who never get to experience Trini, Sabina, Guyana and so on despite us touring there seemingly every year.

As for Oz, wasn't it Sydney where they rioted in the 70s because they introduced a BYOB limit of one crate per person? lol

There were no riots but when I went to MCG they had restricted fans to bringing in one ‘slab’ per person, ie 24 cans. There was a lot of public outrage about this

Me? No. Never been abroad for the cricket before

We’ve found some ticket and hotel packages cheaper than the BA’s last night.

Freedom Destinations or something alone those lines

Living With Lions

and Guillivers Travel. I’m pretty sure Guillivers travel were the company affiliated with the FA and England Supporters Travel Club for the WC and Euros though, and from memory they have kept cancelling trips in the past.

Hoping to hear from the other 2 companies this morning

That might be what I was thinking of, didn't realise it was that recent! In the 70s, they probably rioted every time an England player walked out to bat.
