Anyone remember two Derry lads Paul Ramsay n John O'Neill?

At one stage there would have been 9 or 10 Derry lads over on trial at Filbert St

I don't remember them playing for Leicester as a bit before my time, but definitely remember seeing Ramsey play for Leicester in the old master football.

Was Damien Delaney from Derry as well. Might have been Cork...might not have been either lol

Like storming into a wake and asking if anyone wants to chat about the meaning of life lol

To be fair, it beats having to read people make the same points that have been made 5000 times before lol

Ramsey was in the pubs and clubs of Lestah loads in the 80's, saw him many a time.

And Mr O'Neill was at one point Leicester's most capped international player, took over from a certain Gordon Banks, might still be so.

Vital members of Gordon Milne's promoted side.

Ramsey was a member of the PM's midfield along with Ian Wilson & Kevin Mcdonald behind that 50 goal strike force of:

Super Stevie Lynex, Alan "Smudger" (I read from an autocue/bingo tick list on Sky commentary) Smith & a certain Gary Lineker.

was our captain for a while wasn’t he? We sold him to Liverpool for £400,000 which was a massive deal for us at the time..

No, that was Scot Ian Macdonald.

Remember John as a calm central defender. Paul was a whole hearted midfielder or full back. Recall a famous match where he scored twice I think in a 4-3 win over Leeds

My sister lived in Derry in the early 90's. There were a few of her work colleagues who followed Leicester because of the Ramsey/ O'Neil connection.

I used to take them the car stickers you used to get in the blue when I visited.

They got me tickets at Brandywell in exchange, though I always had to meet them in free Derry corner under the IRA mural 😳

Non league player at Inverness when we got him. I suppose like a lot of English clubs we picked up quite a lot of talented Irish and Scottish players back then.

Schmeichel had nearly 90 caps with us, didn't he?

Yep. Kasper our most capped player. Andy King got 50 odd for Wales. John O'Neill did hold the record for years with 39 caps after passing 37 for Gordon while at Leicester

Remember both, earliest memory of John was an own goal v QPR in the promotion season 82/83 but he played a big part in that defence.

Ramsey was ok too, scored a great goal v Leeds in a 4-3 comeback win as they went on to be champions. 88/89?  As someone mentioned earlier, he liked a drink, my missus was going into work one morning 6am and Ramsey and Walsh were falling out of a nightclub door. She was a ‘Saturday’ girl and they had a game at 3pm 😂

Both good players at that time. Ramsay a no-nonsense, fully committed midfielder who occasionally got slung in as a fullback, I think? O’Neill was a huge unit and presence in a developing team. Very reliable, tough as teak type. An old-fashioned boot-it-up-the-field type defender.

John O'Neill was a great defender, played in 2 World Cups. 1982 & 1986 in Northern Ireland's best ever team.

A brutal challenge by thug John Fashanu sadly ended a great career.

Paul Ramsey quality defensive midfield player who could fill in at full back, also played in the 1986 World Cup & as has been mentioned was/is partial to a beer or two.

Used to see him a lot in town & was an easy man to get along with.
