Can’t he just do it by executive order?

Not sure about that, was wondering if anyone else knew.

Just checking in to see if there is any new news....nope.... just Trump bashing for pages on end.

Can we rename this the Trump and American Politics thread?

I'm sure that you're free to post news articles with other relevance.

It's just unfortunate that man and his lackeys are dominating world events in the most negative fashion at the moment, and that does sadly include the UK.

Given there's a war on that's impacting global prices and will, likely, start another "once in a generation" recession - that's going to dominate the news.

... anyone else fed up of living in "unprecedented" times?

And all the time, vital resources that are not oil will keep getting scarcer too. Fresh water being the key one.

His actions have massively ramped up oil prices to be fair. Only idiots support his actions at this current moment.

I agree, you're hopefully intelligent enough to realise this wasn't a message of support for Trump, my brain is just oversaturated with seeing him, hearing him and discussing him.

And so are we all.

The sooner he and his ideology are no longer a meaningful factor, the better for a great many people.

Everyone is fed up with hearing about trump but when the clown is doing something more ridiculous every day it’s hard to not post anything .
Starmer is the only one he calls out isn’t he? No one else is getting involved but it’s the uk he always end up talking about so he must have rattled him by not getting involved in his stupid games

Isn't Michael Burry (the one that spotted the mortgage crisis before anyone else) only dealing in water?

Seen something that has made that happen..

Not seen that, but I wouldn't be surprised about it at all.

The thing is though, an acute shortage of that particular vital resource won't be something folks can make money off for long. It will, instead, result in a world where economics (apart from the most basic-level barter) are meaningless.

Whilst I despise the phrase, "living rent free in his head" seems appropriate here.  World is standing up to his BS and man baby doesn't like.

You see in sci-fi these future worlds such as Coruscant, Traitor or Gedi Prime and it's never explained where they get their water from or how the air is produced, given no seas or forests.

It's impossible to survive without nature.

NB, for the nerds out there, I'm aware that Coruscant is not a future world.

Pretty much, yes.

The opening of Mad Max Fury Road would be the most likely logical outcome of such a shortage, instead.

I realise I'm over simplifying things here....... BUT... the US claims they are self sufficient in terms of Oil....

So why can't the middle east just refuse to sell to the US, and redirect any supply over to the Rest of the World? Once all of this is over... literally just write America out of the equation. And whilst we are at it.... the Gulf Oil Countries might want to look at some alternative routes overland, that remove the straight issue.

Same reason for North Sea gas drilling doing bugger all for UK prices, prices are set on commodity markets and if they're cut off creating an oversupply the price will go down which the OPEC certainly don't want.  Also, the US does buy lots of oil internationally as their oil is light grade and useless for heavy oil used in industry (why they want Venezuelan oil).  As usual, Trump is lying when he says the US is energy independent.

Even Meloni turning against Trump now

Rome denies US request to use Sicilian air base for bomberspublished at 13:58

President Trump has just called France "very unhelpful" for not letting planes heading to Israel with military supplies fly over French territory.

Earlier, Italy reportedly denied a US request to use the Sigonella air base in Sicily for military aircraft a few days ago, in a move that underscores Rome’s cautious approach to involvement in military operations.

Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera reported on Tuesday that Defence Minister Guido Crosetto denied authorisation after learning of a US flight plan involving aircraft that were due to land at Naval Air Station Sigonella, in the southern Italian region, before continuing towards the Middle East.

The plan was reportedly communicated while the aircraft were already in flight, and no prior approval had been requested from Italian authorities.

Checks suggested the aircraft were not carrying out routine or logistical operations covered by existing agreements between Italy and the US, according to the report.

The request reportedly involved bombers, which require specific approval and parliamentary oversight.

The Italian government has not commented publicly on the episode. Contacted by the BBC, the defence minister’s office was not immediately available for comment.

My only concern with all of this is Trump and Vance have been desperate for an excuse to exit NATO and they've got one.

Good. Will force us to publicly do what the majority of the population wants us to do - abandon the US and get a closet and more united Europe

I'd say it's not ideal timing with Russia looking West, but we all know he wouldn't do anything in that situation anyway so them being in or out of NATO won't really make much difference in the current climate.

They already did, when they threatened Greenland. They've handed in their notice and now they're just waiting for their last day.

Even if the Yanks vote in a friendly Democrat, you're talking decades for trust to be rebuilt.

I've seen this compared to the Suez Crisis and it's hard to argue. This has the signs that it spells the end for US western dominance and it's all self-inflicted.

quite, but call his bluff then.

see how long his popularity lasts when the US economy tanks.

Think Starmer is picking the wrong fight (ongoing) here.

Wildlife smuggling is still a big moneymaker for organised crime in Asia. Perhaps one day someone will have the balls to go after the generals rather than the foot soldiers.

I actually think he's picking the right fight.

Not sure he's picking the right bit of leverage, but doctors are taking the p at this point. Their wages have gone up on average 17% over the last 3 years which is far more than any other job in the country.

While I think public sector wages across the board need to see progress towards at least a degree of restoration if we want decent public servants and services, doctors are misusing their positions in this case imo. They've had so many things given to them recently, I don't understand why somebody that started uni in 2020 thinks their wages should be at 2008 levels.
