The tax take hike from the increase in fuel costs is unexpected and income that the treasury wouldn’t have counted on.

so why can’t reeves give a temporary reduction in fuel duties whilst prices are high and also announce a windfall tax on the fuel companies re their extra profits over this period.

They should have done this weeks ago - their lack of response is the reason why they’re in the position they are with the public.

And the private sector doesn't do the above?

It's reasonably obvious you have an axe to grind here so go ahead and grind it, but please don't pretend this judgement is anything like objective.

And the world has changed, vastly, in the last 10 years.

The UK needs to align and collaborate with someone internationally, and that going to be either the US, the Chinese or the Europeans/Scandinavians/CANAUSNZ collection.

A choice needs to be made.

WRT immigration, @CornwallFox sadly appears to have it right in that it isn't an argument that can be "won". Some people simply want a white ethnostate, and they will raise hell until they have it.

They are Ministers of the Realm - No axe to grind at all.

They will be whiter than white, the grown ups have entered the room, a government of service to the people blah blah ****ing blah.

Don't then turn out to be the biggest ligger in Parliament you scum bag

Judging by previous and current tone of contributions, permit me to disbelieve you there. It sounds like me denying my own distaste for the current US administration.

That being said, in these days of perception overwhelming facts, appearances are important (unless you apparently have the charisma to lie and cheat to people's faces and get by with it, which people like Trump and Farage have and Starmer doesn't.)

Not true?

He was miles out in front.

Then gave back the rateable % since he's been PM?

Also not true.

I just don't like hypocrites and that front bench is full of them

Also, there's not one of them on their brief

Fair enough, goodness knows we could do with a better level of politician across all parties.

Perhaps Burnham might at least help there.

No idea ?

suppose they’d have to be in a vote box

I mean it just sounds so dodgy that I can’t believe it’s true.

EDIT: read a bit more and they weren’t found outside of the original vote count.  The complaint is that how come they were missed the first three times the vote was counted and seemed to have appeared after the weekend on Mondays recount.

We've seen before what happens when the Government reduce fuel duty. The petrol suppliers increase the per litre price by the amount reduced, drivers just pay the same and the suppliers pocket it :@

And surely if they've now only won by one vote, then there needs to be a recount?

Starmer needs to stay for the summer so they can get Burnham onto the ballot. Having a choice between Rayner and Streeting would be utterly appalling and would have us longing for the Starmer halcyon days within weeks.
