It will be refurbished though because of its historical importance

the level of refurbishment?????

Manchester is of historical importance, it’s the industrial heartland that built this country, not toff centre (sorry playing devils advocate here).

Probably my least favourite place in England. Extremely ugly and soulless with an undercurrent of violence. No idea why people venerate it. Its historical importance to use your words is but a fleeting moment in the long history of this island.

In other words, it's a shithole.

Sounds like you got the tram to Piccadilly gardens, walked down Market Street and then left. Those areas of the centre are pretty grim but when you branch out a bit the city is fantastic and has a lot to offer

Not been a great year for Venezuela :(

Two earthquakes rock Venezuela as buildings shake in Caracas - BBC News

https://share.google/m8gTmbugKn3lZeit6

Fatalities predicted to be in the thousands.

Further to this, 6.9 earthquake in Japan. Nothing too unusual except it's very rare to have two large earthquakes in completely different areas within hours of each other. Add to this a 5.6 magnitude quake today in California; again, not so unusual, not too dangerous, but I can't remember so many earthquakes within 24 hrs.

Also interesting that Japan and Venezuela are not far off being antipodal to each other (on the exact other side of the world).

There are are between 1,000 & 1,500 earthquakes of over magnitude 5 a year,  so not as unusual as you might think.

Yeah, but usually just above 5. 3 of those average out over 7 and the other is a high five.

Pun intended.

For mag 6+ there's 100 a year, mag 7+ 15-20.

Yes,  but those stats still indicate three on one day not to be that unusual.  i.e. it will occur  most years.

Likely diminished responsibility and will have a life order in hospital rather than prison.

Burnham causing ire to the kind of shitty people who deserve to be annoyed all the time already - and he's not even PM yet. Good.

More good news. "Conversion therapy", pretty much no matter what form it takes, is coercive and has no place in a decent modern society.

They'll be some skeletons arriving out of his cupboard after initial furore of his appointment has died down. At the moment the media are getting hits from his perceived popularity when that starts to taper off out will come the media knives.

I don’t know, there’s definitely stuff about it that haven’t been released into the public domain. He said he was trying to ‘scare her’ so there’s something that has stopped a guilty charge, perhaps he has a learning disability or something. Of course as an under 18 we won’t be told that. But yeah from the outside it doesn’t look good and there’s something we’re not being told, which only creates more anger.

Just more senseless violence and another young girl being killed. Makes you sick.

Weren’t they siblings?

Yes or step siblings can’t remember the full details. Just read that he apparently googled “what happens when you kill”.

Not from what I read, he claimed it was an accident and no deliberate action to harm took place. On the face of it that seems unlikely but we were not there or were we in court.

Fair enough was only going off what I’d seen!

People say that Reform are bad ( not disagreeing) but little old Denmark slip under the radar whilst saying things like this, from an elected and established member of their cabinet

🚨BREAKING: Denmark’s Minister for Immigration and Integration, Morten Bødskov, is investigating a ban on the Islamic call to prayer (Adhan).

He stated: “The call to prayer should not be heard over Danish rooftops. It has no place in Denmark. You shouldn't be in any doubt whether you've ended up in a suburb of Islamabad when you walk around Denmark.”

This marks a firm push to protect Danish culture and national identity amid ongoing immigration challenges.

i should add that reform have called for a ban of large outdoor prayers in public spaces , but not the adhan call from a mosque
